Yes there is a 40gig PS3 coming out tomorrow.

Yes the games on HD (most are 720p, some are 1080)

Yes the games on in widescreen

It will be $399 and comes with a copy of Spiderman 3 on blu-ray as well.

Not sure about upgrading, but...it's a great thing to have.

Other notes*

Runs quieter and uses less power than previous PS3 (uses newer Cell chip)

DOES NOT HAVE BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY (this isn't an issue if you don't plan on playing older ps2 and ps1 games...or if you are planning on keeping a PS2 system around).

For the millionth time, only PS2 back-compat is cut from the 40GB. PSone emulation remains.

I'm guessing the ps2 BC cost them alot more, that's why they cut it. But it honestly makes no sense in terms of functionality. I really doubt anyone cares much for PS1 BC, the games look so bad and you can't even buy them anywhere except maybe Ebay. all in all though, good move by sony. at 399, the xbox no longer has much of a price advantage at all

Ebay... and the PSN store, where Sony sells many ps1 games for download to the ps3 and psp, especially in Japan.
