I watched the TTT last night and all I have to say is it's nothing short of amazing. I won't go into a long drawn out review like I did for FOTR because if you read that review, you know how I feel about these films and how I thought FOTR looked pretty darn good. Well TTT was nearly flawless in my book. The colors were rich. Details on the Hobbits cloaks popped out. Gollum and Treebeard showed no signs of outdated CGI and if fact looked unbelievable. I couldn't be happier with how those 2 characters transfered over to HD.

Now let me get to certain scenes. Let me talk about Fangorn Forest first. The moss on the trees was lush, the greens were accurate and the detail allowed you to tell that the forrest was intended to be very very old. I can't imagine it looking much better than it did.

Now on to the battle sequesnces. Each sequence was crisp and detailed. The night battle scenes had very nice black levels and the detail in the creatures (Orcs/Wolves) was very nice indeed.

Once again the audio is top notch. It knocked my socks off on a few occasions, and like I said in my FOTR review, all 7 channels were active for the whole movie.

To wrap up i'll say that I was awe struck on how TTT looked. You see stuff that no way you would have seen on the dvd. For example individual hairs/fibers popping up from the Hobbitses cloaks and individual veins in certain characters eyes. I am so happy that we finally have these movies on Blu-ray and to be able to own them and watch whenever I want is a true blessing.

Viewed TTT last night and was awesome. The PQ was great and the same for the AQ. This is actually my favorite movie of the three. Although, all three films score 5/5 on the movie category. ROT will be showing in 15 minutes.

The Aragorn speech is another matter, not only relatively lackluster compared to Theoden's, but also mostly anti-climatic. It also has no equivalent in the book, where after dismissing the Mouth of Sauron, Aragorn simply sets the order of battle and awaits the onslaught; there is no charge:

'Little time was left to Aragorn for the ordering of the battle. Upon one hill he stood with Gandalf, and there fair and desperate was raised the banner of the Tree and Stars. Upon another hill hard by stood the banners of Rohan and Dol Amroth, White Horse and Silver Swan. And about each hill a ring was made facing all ways bristling with spear and sword... And out of the gathering mirk the Nazgul came with their cold voices crying words of death; and then all hope was quenched.'
Thinking about it more, I think the moment that better serves as Aragorn's "speech", regardless of its simplicity, is when he softly says "For Frodo." His previous speech is obviously a cinematic given in order to prepare his troops (and us) for the big battle - but its these two simple words that rally us to charge off after him like two certain hobbits.

Why do you want to do this?

(moan)... here:

DNR evens out images that are composed of "real" and "digital" elements.
It removes noise introduced by digital elements and processes.
It conceals a small amount of damage or corruption on the master, (not well, perhaps, but cheaply).
and finally, the big one:

after extensive market research, (i.e. test audiences being asked which picture looks better), they determined that most consumers prefer a little DNR. Mass market products cater to the majority. I'm sorry they don't cater to your personal tastes.
(haven't I already said this exact thing several times?)

I am now sending you a virtual Kick-in-the-head.

Now, go tell the others not to bring this up again.
say what you will, but dnr also removes detail, thats just a fact.so for a studio to say ''beyond high definition'' is a virtual kick in the head.

theres noting i can do about all of this ,but i can voice how i feel. theres more people that feel the way i do then you think.
how do you explain the money and care put into gone with the wind, the afican queen and other older films and not lotr.

they had enough time to restore these films but took the easy way out.
if every studio put the time and money into blu-ray like disney and sony do with most titles,i woundnt be beating the dnr drum.

it comes down to this, people put down hard earned cash for there blu-ray movies,we want i better product.but hey if your willin to settle for less help yourself.

People often ask me what I find so fascinating about these movies, and I always tell them the same thing--you can't describe the experience--you have to experience it for yourself! I tell them that they can't just watch the movies, they have to become a part of them. If you don't allow your imagination to take part in the events, you will NEVER understand "what all the fuss is about"...

I watched "The Lord of the Rings" on Thursday evening, "The Two Towers" on Friday evening, and "Return of the King" on Saturday evening. I laughed, I cried, I felt every single emotion a human being could experience through these three movies.

At the end, once the final credits came up, My entire view of the world changed. That's the type of effect good movies have on me.

Now, I look forward to the Extended Versions so that I may experience this once again.

And most importantly--eagerly awaiting "The Hobbit"........

I did the same things. Watch FOTR thursday. Two Towers Friday. And Return of the King Satuday! Afterward my crying fest in the third I kept talking about how amazing the trilogy is and Im so glad I watched them

Watched ROTK last night. This had the best PQ of them all.
If you pop in FOTR right after watching ROTK, you can definitely tell a big difference in PQ.

I guess we'll never know if FOTR PQ was due to the DI or when it was ran through the mastering process it needed more work but was considered "good enough" for release.
I mean, only 100 hours to master 9 hours of film. I suspect each one was just ran through the "autobot mastering attendant" with the technician just watching the time line and the newer movies just came out better due to their source.

I would rate the PQ of three movies as:
ROTK: 4.5
TTT: 4
FOTR: 3

I also wonder those who report back that the PQ was great base it on their viewing of ROTK, which is definitely good but not based on each film.

Just got my lazy ass up to grab another beer.

That being said, obvious flaws in Fellowship that I thought would be there are there, but briefly and are not present throughout, they are however not nearly as bad as I thought they would be nor do they represent the majority of the hour and a half or so I have seen, A stark black-and-white improvement over the DVD presentation beyond a shodow of a doubt, audio is great. If the following 2 films are an improvement on this presentation (and every single thing I've read leads me to believe that is the case) then this one to my eyes looks above average as big titles go, nothing spectacular but not hardly Patton (those who have seen this will be able to use that as a reference point, it is not in any way in that league of "ugh." DNR in this is simply not anywhere in that same category.) sO far, not spectacular but also not terrible, a little above average I'd say.

GOing back to watch the rest now. Will probably be too busy during the week to watch the following two but hopefully during the weeked there'll be time. Later. Will post again once I've seen em all.

Yep you are right FOTR is WAY better then the DVD and the upconverted by a milestone. Pleople saying its not are either lying or blind

Yep. Actually all of them looks great. But ROTK is almost reference quality.
And if TTT and ROTK looks so good it is a source issue with FOTR being more soft then the other 2.
