Default Man on Fire vs. Taken

Which one did you like more? Simple question. Similar movies with similar themes.

Man on Fire. Better action, better writing, better performances. I actually think this performance matched that of Denzel's in Training Day, the one that won him his first little statue.

Man on Fire all the way. Taken was good but MoF was better.

Hard choice, both are very good.

Taken for me, pretty much just because I wouldn't have picked Liam Neeson as an ass kicker, but he pulls it off so damn well.

Taken - A Father rescuing his child versus a babysitter rescuing his charge, as a single Dad the choice was simple...

Both were good movies though

I think the events of Man on Fire proved that John Creasy was Pita's true father, regardless of blood ties.

Whoa, what, I've watched that movie at least a dozen times and never got that impression - I'm going to rewatch it in the morning when I get home, not saying you're wrong but I just didn't see that in the movie at all

EDIT just did a quick Google for the plot of both versions of the movie and the book and nowhere is it mentioned that Creasy is the child's Father - I think you may have this movie confused with another...

I voted Taken but I own both. Denzel and Liam are my two favorite actors.

[Show spoiler]He became quite attached to her, even helped her get out of piano lessons and helped her become a better swimmer. Her own father tried to trade her for money, Creasy traded his own life to hunt down her captors and get revenge.

Yea ok I agree with that, he may have treated her as his own - but in the earlier post you indicated that he was her real father and that is not so...

True father, as in he actually protected her and cared for her as a father should, unlike her screw-up of a biological father.

I don't know how you could compare both films.

Both are different style wise. They share similarities but can't be compared.

I went with MOF. To me, that is Denzel's best role and I think he deserved an oscar nom for it. Great story, great acting, amazing cinematogrophy, and damn good action.

I love Taken, too. It is just too similar to MOF for me to put it above MOF.

Taken had much better action, imo. I didn't think Man on Fire really had much action. Denzel def kicked some tail but there weren't any huge stunts or action sequences. I mean, he fires an RPG and walks into the street shooting his Glock like a bad mofo, but Taken is a true action movie.

And as far as torture scenes go, I liked Liam's electrocution technique as opposed to Denzel's fingers in the cigar cutter technique. Both were brutal though!

Style wise they are different, but the story lines are pretty similar. The main characters are very similar, too.

I think the performance was too similar to the one in Training Day and too soon after it for it to garner him another nod. In both films he plays a renegade that does whatever he wants, whenever he wants and to whomever he wants.

Stories are similar, and I agree.

Still can't see how you can compare both films.

Are you saying both films are about man who saves girl? If so other films including comedies fall in the category as well.

I hated "Man on Fire;" really couldn't get past its hyperactive style. Action was there, but not the kind that really thrills me. I like "Taken" a lot though; I loved its style, its action, and its story.
