So after getting all the advice this is what I ended up getting.
Marantz SR5004 Audio/video Receiver Polk Audio TSi300 Floorstanding Speaker-fronts Polk Audio CS2 Center Channel Speaker Polk Audio TSi100 Bookshelf Speakers-rears Premier Acoustic PA-120 Titanium Subwoofer Got them all in cherry. I won’t be looking at this site for a long time. I just spent way to much including the deepdiscount.com sale and the deals y'all post are way too tempting. Thanks again for all the help. |

Most receivers don't come with speaker wire. I recommend speaker wire from monoprice.com. Actually if you need any cables at all (HDMI, component video, etc.) I recommend monoprice.com. My speaker wire is 12 gauge, but you probably don't need it that big unless you're making some long cable runs. 14 or maybe even 16 would probably be just fine. How long will your cables need to be? Also keep in mind that if you plan on running any wires in the wall that you should be sure to get in-wall rated wire.

Your Marantz will display Multi Ch Audio or PCM. I'd choose the Plasma over the DLP. |

Is it better to have a standalone blu-ray player or is a ps3 the same quality I bought the Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-P58S1 58-Inch 1080p Plasma and want all I can get out of that TV and my marantz. The player that caught my attention was the Panasonic DMP-BD65 Blu-Ray Disc Player. I will finally post pics once the TV gets here. Thanks for all the help guys. I know I have allot of questions but I’m not great at this stuff.

I agree with Callas. I have a Sony that served me well. I got it after I had enough of a very disappointing Samsung player. I did however swap it out for another PS3 since I came across one for a great deal, and IMO the PS3 is still a better performer than most players in the under $400 range. It still loads faster than most standalone players and it has great video quality.
If a standalone is preferred then I'd step up to an Oppo if you want any significant improvements over the PS3. The only reason I see to get a cheaper standalone would be if you don't already own a PS3 and gaming isn't desired. Since you own one I don't think its worth investing in a standalone unless you are going to go with a higher end player. |
