Isn't Bluray winning? Everyone is talking as if this thing is tied, and that this player even has the ability to tip the scale. I know it has been said about 1,000 times, but a cheap player is not going to do anything to this war. People that would buy the cheap HD-DVD player and decide they were going to look toward a new format, are actually the people that are going to decide to buy their first DVD player....and its going to cost them $29.99. This war is going to be won first by that percentage that drives the BMWs and the Mercedes, and they actually want to "Experience High Definition".

Should and DO are two way different things. One is "hope" one is "reality".

Default I'm buying 4 HD-DVD players at 98 bucks.

Two are going up for sale on ebay with their movies the other two are going to be experimented on i.e. I am going to demolish them with a sledge hammer.

If I had more money this week I would buy ten and destroy them.

they should go for the best everytime... thats great of you to say. but then theres this little problem called MONEY. unless you are bill gates, you dont go for the best everytime, its just not gonna happen. do you have a 12 bedroom mansion? why not!?!?!?!?! you just said you god for the best everytime, or SHOULD! wtf?! hypocrite!!!! but seriously, money is the problem here. i agree, going for the best is what i would love to always do. but im in the military with only 2 stripes so far. i cant afford to always go for the best. i have a family and too many pets and bills are crazy in okinawa. so i cant always go for the best, as the general population cant do all the time either. its just not happening, ever. sorry to burst your bubble.

Hm...so blu-nazis are the problem eh? Uh...maybe you should calm down a little and note that he was making a point. He is not the reason you are in the army, are married, have a family, or that you have a lot of pets...hes just someone that likes bluray.

To shorten things up....Blu is the best available.....so thats what he wants....and thats what he is going to get.

thank god this ISNT brain surgery, you would kill someone. now lets look at this from a non-MY DAD CAN BEAT UP YOUR DAD standpoint, or at least a non-BD ROOOLZ standpoint and at least give credit where it is due. your "team" had a BOGO sale and the "enemy" had one movie. 51% to bd, 49% to hddvd. if you dont think a 100 dollar player can tip the scales, then you sir, are ignorant. and i dont mean that to offend, i mean that to enlighten. they practically broke even on ONE title, compared to an entire library of blu rays. thats quite the feat. now, not every movie is Transformers mind you, but i guaran-damn-tee you that there will be one copy of transformers on HD-DVD sold with each and every A3 HD-dvd player. why? because thats their bait. it almost made me spend too much money to do it too. 5 people i work with already bought HDDVD players from this sales blitz online just for Transformers. so Transformers may not have won in its release week, but i guarantee you by the time this sale is up, they will have passed up the total BOGO sales with HDDVD Transformers sales. you can call me a liar or anything else, but deep down you know im right.

The best scenario in my mind is to have a huge blowout on Black Friday. They can dump some 1.0 players for super cheap on that day, and then raise the prices again after the sale is done. If they do some huge promotions at BB, Amazon, Target, etc, they can push a lot of players out the door, something even like $249.99 player + 2 movies instore. Something like that would only be a short term hit on the CE's and regain some momentum for Blu Ray

All anyone has to do to prove that the BEST does not always win is to look at Beta vs VHS and SACD. Both beta and SACD are superior but price killed them off compared to the competitor formats. It's just not a realistic arguement to say Blu is going to win because it's BETTER. That's not going to be the reason. The reason will be marketing and price.

My question is , why did u first support a format that u say it is more expensive? You should of jsut went for the cheaper one in the beginning since you all this stuff to pay.

I worry that they should be doing something more drastic then a one day sale.

It seems sub 200 dollar players are going to be the norm for HDDVD.....even a 300 dollar player from bluray would make a HUGE difference imo

all my !!!!!'s and WTFs were in jest. i stated, BUT SERIOUSLY, but not in caps lock because that means im yelling. i was joking with the first part, im not "blaming" anyone for my personal situation, im damn happy to be in it. i was only alluding to the fact that my situation is my own reason for not going for the best every time. the general population may not have all the exact same variables in their own situations, but i guarantee you the majority of them have more "variables" to deal with that prevent them from going for the best than i have. i mean, hell, i DO have a blu ray player and 15 or 16 blu rays. my family thinks im nuts, but i just wanted to go for the best this time. i cant always do it but i really really really wanted to.

for those confused by my stance- blu ray is awesome, technologically superior, and like a hot girlfriend. but HD-Dvd isnt the redheaded step child, they are the hot twin sister with slightly bad breath. youd still sleep with her too, or hell, even have a 3way, because bad breath is hardly a dealbreaker when it comes to pleasure (pleasure being your HD viewing...get out of the gutters people )

....if only they had Transformers every week. look at the since inception numbers....year to date numbers...you name it. When was the last time that the numbers were that close? I've only been paying attention for a couple months....I am not aware of a time in which its been that close in a while. Maybe you are right...and maybe everyone is going to clear the shelves of these A3s. And maybe everyone buys Transformers, and that will lead to them buying more....I mean....isn't Shrek coming out this week or something? I highly doubt, however, that this is going to win the war for them, or even closing the gap. The gap hasn't closed since Paramount switched, and there is rumor(for the past 3 months, so maybe this means nothing) that WB is going exclusive. I think WB will have a much greater affect on how things turn out than this sub $100 player.

because nothing ever really ticked me off to this point. bashing people for being intelligent consumers is the reason Cingular can give you shi**y service and still monopolize the market. its why the FCC has to fight off lobbyists to preserve the consumer friendly rules of the 700 MHz frequency spectrum auction. thats why i care so much. im a damn smart consumer, and there are a select few others here, but the large number of blu-blinded buyers seem to look down on the intelligence of the few.
