Yea some people I think over think a film to much and that takes away from the enjoyment. I mean to be serious u could probably nit pick sumthin in every movie great or not. I just try to enjoy and if sumthin sticks out so bad then Ill obviously comment on it but other than that I try to enjoy and if I dont like it then oh well. Some people actually go into each film looking to criticize and that is mind boggling because if that is the case why even watch movies? Got Em!!

I have a threshold, I can only take so much bad writing or bad acting or etc., sure I'll forgive something every now and then, I do that with the LOTR for example, but a movie like 2012 continually comes with mind bogglingly stupid stuff in my opinion.

It was just so glaring and in your face to me that I couldn't enjoy it that much, of course it is just my experience and people will have different opinions which I surely will respect.

There are still movies I can turn my brain off to, like Transformers 2, I know it sucks but whatever

I, personally, took the movie as an outrageous comedy, with the theme of "killin bad guys". The average German foot soldier is entirely different than a Nazi, and to that extent, I totally agree with your point.

I dont want to derail the thread..... PM sent.

I hear that. Also I am a big fan of disaster films so that gives them an advantage as its about disaster so I love the effects for 1 and for 2 so much is usually goin on that I am messmerized. With 2012 I was locked in from the jump and just held on for the ride and to me when it went off I was like is it over already? For a 2 and half hour film, it only felt like hour and half. But like u say we like what we like. U agree on some and some u dont. U know my sayin........haha Got Em!!

Rented "Sherlock Holmes."

Entertainment: 4/5. A surprising amount of action. A few slow parts maybe, but pretty thrilling and interesting throughout.

Story: 3.5/5. I was initially a little disconcerted over the changes; Sherlock Holmes himself comes off as a wacko, not to mention that he plays more of an action hero, and the film's overall tone is very modernized (or "Hollywood-ized" as my boss would say). But as the movie went on, the occult mystery became interesting, and took on the semblance of a classic mystery story. And all things considering, Holmes himself does take on a slight semblance to the original character.

Film: 4/5. Action scenes are cool at times. Imagery is strong. Photography is good. Production design (sets, props, costumes, etc) is excellent. Acting and writing are okay. Music is interesting.

Intellect/emotional: 0/5. It's all elementary anyway.

Total: 4/5. I did expect worse, but despite my initial reservations, I was entertained. I might consider buying a copy; would go good with "Van Helsing!"

Besides, we need more steampunk movies!

2/10, I had a few laughs and the effects were great.
I was actually looking forward to the movie, had hoped for some entertainment value, but not really much to be had.[/QUOTE]

and with that you give it a 2???....out of 10???
I would a assume a 5 out of 10 would be "just average"?

A few laughs where the audience wasn't meant to laugh, that can't be a good thing.
The effects alone doesn't warrant a higher rating too.

yeah, but 2 out of 10-- wouldn't that be considered "terrible"?
I think a special effects movie should at least get credit for delivering what
it's meant to?

Just my 2 cents-- I enjoyed the film and felt that it delivered what it was supposed to...

i'm confused: you hate the roles Hoffman plays or you hate this role?

I love this film too. As I've said in this thread, it tells you more about yourself than about the film. The first two times I watched it, I concluded
[Show spoiler] that he was innocent
. On the third time I watched it, I flipped, and concluded
[Show spoiler] he did it
. The friends I watched it with were all over the place, too. We all bring lots of baggage, opinions, etc, to a film, and good films like this one will merely hold a mirror up to us, and let us reflect on what we see (no pun intended )

Not necessarily. That's the whole point of the film--it's unresolved whether he did it or not.

exactly!
[Show spoiler] streep lied to try and get him to leave. hence, the only wrongdoing we're 100% sure of is Streep's lying

but he has a point: i haven't seen Hoffman in too many good-guy roles, although Magnolia fits that.

American Gangster 9/10

Watched the "Unrated Extended Cut" of the film that was a whopping 2 hrs and 48 minutes long. I'm a real big crime / drama fan and this one did not disappoint. Kind of a slow burner, but that's seamingly how all GOOD crime / drama films are.

I have friends who hate it, but they were expecting action. I knew better, and I loved it, although Denzel Washington's performance wasn't great, but wasn't bad... was just... typical (good) Denzel.

I do think it's terrible, I was annoyed by it, I don't think I'll ever see it again.

Anyways I still stand by my rating.

watched: Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring

Movie: 5/5 (my favourite film of the trillogy, fantastic in nearly every department)
VQ: 2.5/5 (this area is extremely problematic, I honestly don't car if they used an old HD tv transfer if it is good, but this isn't very good, luckily as each film progresses matters get much better in this department.)
AQ: 5/5 the audio is unbelievable, if only the same can be said about the vq.
