HD-DVD is fine for the avg consumer, it's not Blu-Ray because of the capacity, lossless sound and there are other flaws but IT IS HD. The Blu-Nazi's make you believe that an upscaling DVD is the same. No way. HD-DVD is fine for picture quality but this IS blu-ray.com so i guess mis-information is okay and a bit biased. It's total homerism but its understandable. I just think some of these fellow Blu'ers are way over-confident. I'm not.. Things can change in a hurry. I just want the word to get out that we need a cheap blu-ray player or thing could get ugly. We aren't the only ones that think that Xero. There are others but when you say something positive about HD-DVD, expect a total backlash. Understandable considering the location but there are SOME objective people here. Not as many as I'd like to see though.

Do you think the AVERAGE consumer gives a crap about that? No way. They want the HD picture. Sound is for Home Theater fanatics who are usually early adopters. The average consumer will buy a crappy HTIB and show it off to the neighbors.

no, i know they dont do EXACTLY the same thing. but as i stated before, for what i have, they do. i dont have 12 speakers and 2 subs around my tv. no, i still have 5.1 because its great and more than that feels excessive to me. im not an audiophile. and i know what PCM is, and i know that very few HD-DVDs support it. and i mean i could count them on one hand. seeing as i dont really keep up with the HD-DVD catalog since i dont buy them, i dont care to look at the specs of any recent releases. and its past my bedtime. way too tired to care anymore, ive voiced my opinion and thats what i wanted to do. but just for fun, how many HD-DVDs does it take to give me 1080p video and dd5.1 for 2 and a half hours? and how many BDs? i think youll find the answer with less than 2 fingers. (use them to count, it makes it easier.)

i agree. bd needs cheaper players to compete again. im not buying 10 titles to make up for 9 players not sold. thanks for the backup in here, im out for today. dont let them sway you.

Why am I an HD communist? I dont even have HD-DVD. You are just a blind-biased, pom-pom waving blu-homer. That's okay. I'll love to be here to *****-slap you if what I say comes to fruition because you fanboys are too stoopid to realize what might happen. You could make a difference and you choose not to because you are over-confident. Usually people like that end up on the wrong team in the end. I'm not sure what will happen but karma sucks sometimes.

You keep bringing up average consumers. I keep wondering whether it will be a year, or 5 years before the average consumer cares. Right now the average consumer is pissed that DVD's successor is already in the works. I'm not satisfied in saying that the average consumer is looking to buy an HD television this holiday season, so why would the average consumer be looking to tip the format war.

I am making a difference. Some are people around here are spending $98 on an hd-dvd player....I spent a little more on the Spidy Trilogy and Tools of Destruction.

what i don't like is people saying is over, blu lost because of a sale. As soon there is a little road block ahead. Oh blu ray will lose, no cheap players. No faith.

Who do you think will actually finally decide who wins this format war like all others? Yep you guessed it, the average consumer. The only way Blu-Ray wins is if the average consumer buys the product. That will not happen as long as the prices are like they are now especially. Everyone keeps saying "Well HD-DVD has always said they had cheap players" Well that was when both were still to high for Joe Wal-Mart, above $350. Now HD-DVD is in the average consumer price range, thus more adoption of it. Blu-Ray's not even close yet. Consumer electronics are usually not bought in mass until they reach below $200. Under $200 tons more fly off the shelves, exponentially(sp) larger amounts! We absolutely need BDA to counter this move or the precious 60-40 ratio is gonna go bye-bye fast.

This isnt just a sale, it's marketing and economics.. They will do everything they can to keep players under $200 if the sale works during the holiday's. You watch. We are talking possibly millions of players sold if they can keep up with supply. This is the perfect time of year to do this sale. I objectively have to give them credit. They will lose now to gain later....

Default Sony not going below $399 to fight $98 HD-DVD

Sony: $399 Blu-ray Player; That's All, Folks
Company executive dismisses calls for lower prices.
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (November 1, 2007) -- Sony Electronics President Stan Glasgow says Blu-ray player prices will likely not fall under $399 this holiday season.

“(The player will be) in the $399 range...I don’t expect it to go much lower than that," Glasgow said today, according to TWICE Magazine.

Glasgow made his comment today following an announcement from Wal-Mart that it will sell the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player for $98 as a special pre "Black Friday" sale starting tomorrow.

Blu-ray and HD DVD are rival formats competing for the new high-def disc audience.

Amazon.com, Circuit City and Wal-Mart revealed late last month that they would sell the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player for $198 during non-promotional periods.

At $198, the entry-level HD DVD player is now $300 less than the lowest-priced Blu-ray player, the Sony BDP-S300.

But Glasgow, whose company is the leading booster of the Blu-ray format, seemed unworried about the lower HD DVD prices.

He said consumers will choose Blu-ray over its high-def disc rival because there are more Blu-ray titles. Additionally, the Sony executive said Blu-ray outperforms HD DVD.

“Hopefully when all the (movie) titles reach the market this season and the beginning of 2008, (consumers) will see the (difference) in performance," Glasgow said, according to TWICE.
Ok so what do you guys think? Sony arrogance? or are we comfortable with that?

They also said the PS3 would not get a price cut.
Companies don't announce price cuts ahead of time, so they don't affect current sales.
I also think if (god forbid) HD DVD starts to catch up on sales and those f*ckfaces at HDD (Citrixguy, Treadstone, Volume11) start posting even more crap, the BDA would shut them down with their own pricecuts, or they'd buy a studio.

Nope, they dont need to be desperate like toshiba. They know they can and will win the war without doing so.

Call me a pessimist but I have to say this is a dark day if that article is true. I feel I'm witnessing the beginning of the end of Blu-Ray. This is a major blow to me. I'm sure you Blu-Nazi's will pan me and I hope you are right but in the words of Han Solo "I have a BAD feeling about this..."

Good point....I was just hoping he said they have something up their sleeve. He just kinda brushed off the whole sale thing. As someone that wants to buy tons of BD's this Christmas, it'd be nice to know they're ready to bring out the big guns!

I'm scared too man. I've got such a reputation on the line. I've gotten tons of people to buy into BD. I can't ever imagine it failing.
