like I said... I will be bumping this thread.

btw the same source you're using that says shooter is identical also thinks predator is a avc transfer.

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/609/predator.html

go figure.

"Fox made the unconventional choice of opting for an MPEG-2 encode on a single layer Blu-ray disc, a bad habit I thought they'd dropped months ago. Even with as challenging as Predator's grainy visuals can be, I didn't spot any compression artifacting, but I can't help but wonder if a more efficient codec would've resulted in at least a marginally better looking presentation or freed up enough space to carry over all of the DVD's extras."

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/32862/predator/

Conclusion:Predatormay be my all-time favorite action flick, but this Blu-ray disc feels like microwaved leftovers with a Ruth's Chris pricetag. A single layer disc with an MPEG-2 encode that's probably been collecting dust for ages"
Fox has repackaged and reissued Predatoron DVD over and over again, and there's really not any doubt in my mind that a much more decked-out Blu-ray edition isn't any more than a couple of years off. As much as I love the movie, I'd recommend renting this initial Blu-ray release"

I don't recall mentioning a source, as I didn't have one . . .

Your second doesn't really work for you, as it clearly states that there are no problems, merely that MPEG 2 is less efficient (not lesser quality) than AVC and VC1.

do you not know what less efficient means?

Yes, I'm well aware what efficiency means. It means that the same quality work can be done with more/less effort. But, same quality nonetheless.

Do YOU know what it means?

You obviously don't understand what it means in the context of what he said.

LOL, and I see you changed your original quote.

Precisely. This is someone's musings (not an expert) as to whether or not it could look slightly better. Many, many people who know more than you, I, or him, have said it looks the way it's supposed to look. But, as someone who hasn't seen it, you would know the least

umm yes they do. That's why when you look up something in a dictionary there are multiple answers depending on how the word was used.

Hm . . . in none of those definitions does efficiency equal a difference in quality. As a matter of fact, in the context of a machine, the definition IS STILL THE SAME.

Wow... now you're reaching here. There isn't one source or review claiming this movie CAN'T look better. Only that due to the source it'll never look great. It can definately look better. The transfer has noticeable scratches and is the same master as the 2disk dvd from 6 years ago.

Pretty much all of the insiders here that have commented on Predator have said that it's not going to look much, if any, better with a new transfer. If it does, great, but I'm not holding my breath.

Where are those scratches, exactly?

Thanks. It's very difficult for me to get to a B&M store, so I normally do all my shopping online. But now that you mentioned Commando, I need to check that one out too

This is very, very interesting to me. The current disc's picture and sound quality is pretty sad and has been selling for $9.99 regularly all year. If they were ever going to release a remastered version of Predator, alongside the "Predators" theatrical release would be the perfect time to do it.

An AVC, Region A-capable version coming to Japan in early June?: http://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/n...20_362485.html

And, for those who'd prefer to wait for a domestic version to tie in with the theatrical release of PREDATORS, more healthy hope that there will now be one?
