Game of the Year Editions - Blu-ray Forum

So... bored at work reading about GOTY on wikipedia... each website picks what they think is there game of the year. But who or what decides what game is actually re-released under a GOTY edition title? Mods are usually good and quick with these answers

Does anyone re-buy games when they're released with this special title added. The ones I'm aware of are. Out of the ones that are out basically they're re-released but with all the DLC available on the disc correct? Is that the only change?

Oblivion Game of the Year Edition is also out. That and Fallout 3 GOTY are the only games I own. Upgraded from the regular editions.

As long as it wins "Game of the Year" SOMEWHERE, I'm pretty sure they can re-release it with extra content and whatnot. Like a lot of people had Uncharted 2 as 2009's GOTY but Gamespot picked Demon's Souls and microsoft favored sites undoubtedly picked whatever Halo came out.

It's all about the endorsements.

true... sooo who re-releases it? the publisher decides to milk the cash cow with the name? is that how it works?
does it have to be certified as a GOTY to be re-released or as long as it won one award somewhere they can.

I'm pretty sure as long as someone credible (ign, gamespot, PSM, etc) nominates it game of the year the publisher can re-release it with that moniker.

Oblivion and Fallout 3 are by far the best Game of the Year editions out there. Bethesda makes good stuff.

Midnight Club L.A. has a greatest hits version that includes DLC. At least I think it does. I'll check when I'm working tomorrow.

Game of the Year editions are PERFECT for people who didnt pick up the game the first time around. I picked up Fallout 3 used when it came out but it didnt initially interest me so I returned it. A year later, the GotY edition went on sale for $30 and decided it was time to give it another try and I couldnt be happier that I did. I ended up getting a all the achievements and Fallout: New Vegas is now my number one anticipated disc.
