The problem is the Optimum U.K. Release is region locked which is so stupid considering they would gain a slew of buyers if it was region free. Besides all the extras make it a worth while and a solid release. Then we have Network out of the U.K. release which is region free but has uses a print that had print damage and missing about 7 seconds. Now we have the Forgotten Films release out of the good ole U.S.A. which may have used a variety of sources from original film, to internet downloads, to DVD or Blu-Ray ripped copies, to Internet Archive copies, to DVDs all the way down to those VHS tapes we all remember on discount at the local K-Mart, Big Boys, or outlet out of some guy's van in Brooklyn. Then again this may be the definitive release on Blu-Ray. I guess we won't know until someone buys the darn thing or/and/if someone from Forgotten Films posts here.
I myself am a big fan and had the VHS back in the early 80's bought at K-Mart, when K-Mart existed in Canada. Here is Night of the Living Dead is full HD on Internet Archive, which looks crystal clear and may very well be the Optimum Release: http://www.archive.org/details/Night...ing.Dead_1080p I myself already own both the Optimum and Network releases as I got both for a good deal so I took the leap. I may just end up picking the Forgotten Films Release up. Ha, who knows, maybe there is a "Joe Blow from Eskimo" Blu-Ray release coming in 2011. At this point, I think George Romero has moved on and really doesn't care to go through all the hassle to somehow re-activate or re-animate the copyright, so a profit somewhere down the line that he may not even live to see. Night of the Living Dead would not have been so wide spread or wide known had the copyright stayed in tact, so the copyright error could be seen as a mixed blessing. The main thing we zombie genre fans must really watch out for and you all know it is coming one of these days, when the 30th Anniversary Edition of Night of the Living Dead is released in Blu-Ray. Then the horror of the preacher's dialogue in full HD will be released. Last edited by Atari Charles; 04-24-2010 at 06:17 PM. Reason: added info |
