Default Pepsi and Coke similar to Blu vs HD? :D

I dunno I had a random thought at work today when they replaced our Coke machine with a Pepsi. Pepsi and Coke have lot in common with Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Pepsi is Blue and Coke is Red. Pepsi costs just a little bit more. ($1.25 instead of $1) But, Pepsi is just sooo much sweeter than Coke.

And Pepsi's the one that resorts to immature Coke-bashing in their ads for lack of any other sales pitch, but that can't be right--They're in the blue can!

I don't mean to be mean and I know I'll come off as such, but what a stupid thread. They don't have anything in common.

I meant it to be funny, I don't care if it has a point, I was just having fun with it. If you can't joke about things what is the point?

Except for colors, no. I do however like Pepsi more and would rather pay $1.25 than .80 for a Coke at my job.

While I think that there is a commonality in that coke and pepsi are competitors, there is a couple of major differences. There is room for more then one soft drink in the world, there does not seem to be room for more then one major media format (ie beta, laserdisc, minidisc, dat) Coke and Pepsi are made by one company each, the Blu-ray HD-DVD stuff is made by many production companies.

You are half right kinda. Pepsi used to own Taco Bell KFC Pizza Hut Long John Silvers and A&W restaurants. But they were spun off into a company called Yum Brands.
As to Kmart no but they do own Frito-Lay.

As to the op other than colors there is nothing close in this analogy.

I see it more as WWF vs WCW

A large media company uses their buying power to hire away a huge amount of established talent and build an audience on a single gimmick, but through higher quality and more innovative product, and the fact that money alone can't make all those egos work together, WWF prevailed and now owns WCW

ive been thinking about this and i think there is a pattern, B=blue, R = red. My preference first

Pepsi(b) vs Coke(r)
Ford(b) vs Vauxhall(or GM for you US types)(r)
Conservative(b) vs labour(r)
tesco(b) vs Sainsburys(nearly r)

you see? blu is the colour...

Response transliterated into Blu vs HD :

You're too used to the Red, man. Blu isn't gritty, it's grainy, just as it was intended. Why can't we support the product that is made the way it was intended to be? Red has been filtered down so many times that it loses all the sweet flavor. Now it's just bland and washed out.

I prefer to think of the format war is like the competition between Toyota and Yugo a few years ago. Hint: Toyota = BD.
