If ya wanna play PS2 games on the new system, ya gotta get the 80. Otherwise, I don't see why 40 wouldn't work.

well if ur gonna use it mainly for a blu-ray player, get the 40gb its 100 dollars cheaper. the only thing u lose out on is ps2 backwards compatablity, other then that ur not missing out on much. But if u choose to get the 80gb dont, get the 60gb. the 60gb has full backwards compatablity and also the deals on it are usually 60gb system+ free game+free blu movie.

it does, but its software emulation. the 60gb has actual chips inside the ps3 to play the ps2 games.
OP if u get the 80gb, u might as well get the 60gb cause there are way more deals on that. the extra 20gb is to blind u from the truth!! so... 60gb=40gb( if u dont care about ps2 games) but 60gb/40gb > 80gb |

I was trying to decide between the 40 and 80 a week ago.
I convinced myself to get the 80. The price isn't THAT much more, and you get some extra usb ports and the PS2 game playback. I said "eh, what the heck" and now have an 80gig model. its nice. |

An 8 GIG card on your PS2? I think you meant 8mb on that one.
As far as the hard drive size for the ps3...it depends what you're going to be doing with it. Once again backwards compatibility should be your first thought: Are you keeping your ps2 around? if so...you need not worry about that. If you plan to just have a couple games as you mentioned, then 80 gigs is really not necessary, but keep in mind it's nice to have space to download demos, trailers, and game packs from the PSN store (...most demos I've seen have been ranging in the 500mb to 1.4gb range). Course, I keep my system fairly clean, deleting demos and videos I no longer want. MUSIC is another big thing, if you plan on putting a lot of music on the system (kind of nice to do with a home theater speaker system and then the PS3's beautiful music visualizer). Ultimately, it's up to you of course. |

Is there anyway you can just network the music from you pc Through the PS3? Instead of storing them ontop of that system.

I believe you will need Windows XP or Vista for it to work. It's pretty easy to figure out/set up as well. |

I actually just recently picked up a PS3 at wal-mart for $500 and it came with a blu-ray remote and Resistance. Also, I know someone who works over there and got 10% off

I would splurge on the 80GB. But then again, I'm an avid gamer. Maybe you should not if you don't plan to play often enough to justify the cost.

If you don't need the backwards compatability or the card readers and extra USB ports then go for the 40GB PS3, if you think you might want those extras then spend the extra $100.00.
