United Kingdom Saving Private Ryan, picture problem

Hi

On Saturday I posted a problem with my Saving Private Ryan picture having very noticeable changes in brightness, played on a Denon 3800BD, clearly visible at Chapter 12, 1 hr, 34m 20s.

The picture seems to "pulse" slightly brighter every 1 to 2 seconds. The DVD plays perfectly.

For some reason the thread disappeared.

So two questions:

1/ Is anyone else having the same problem?
2/ How do you contact the Moderators of this forum when there is a problem with posts?

Thanks, Ian

Was three minutes away from this point and had to pop out. Will check and post results shortly!

Okay I can 100% confirm that this is definitely not happening with my disc on my Pioneer bdp-lx91
I would start by trying a new disc in case it's a rogue one and then hassle Denon otherwise!

Hey I replied to that thread, and it's gone!!

To repeat what I said last time as I guess you didn't see it:

I don't have this movie but have seen glitchy dark scenes in other movies, like its not rendering the low pulses of light properly. I found that setting the picture mode on my Panasonic TV to Cinema sorts the problem. 'Cinema' setting is just a preset of settings which you can do manually if you don't have a similar preset on your TV, settings are as follows:

Contrast 90%
Brightness 50%
Colour 50%
Sharpness 50%

If you have any picture or colour processing options, turn them on.

Might not sort it if it is genuinely something weird on the disk but worth a shot, I was amazed at the difference it made to movies such as Underworld Evolution and others. UE was practically unwatchable until I found this magic setting and looks superb now.

I will check mine in a minute.

My Wizard of Oz pulsates like a light house is nearby. Its weird because it seems like its the source material but people keep saying get your stuff calibrated and such. When 99.9% of your discs are absolutely perfect calibrating isn't the answer.

Cinema mode is just dimming the light output giving the impression that the pulses aren't there. Which is fine if your room is completely dark, sometimes my room is dim but not dark.

I don't watch movies in the dark and the difference it can make is miraculous, but I get what you're saying.

Ianmac

I get exactly the same problem using a Sony BDP S350 and a Sony KDL40z5800. Weirdly enough I spotted the picture problem whilst looking for the audio sync problems around the same time on the disc. Really shoddy imo, and I have applied for the recall on the disc anyway.

Hopefully both the audio and picture probs will be sorted, however I fear they will fix the audio sync only.
