Pretty sure it was just a first pressing thing but no the price is the same as the sets with the digital copies.

I just have no time after work to log on and chat myself. I would love to, but 2 kids don't allow it (I do all my reading at work or as I go to bed at night). However, I am about to start reading Unfinished Tales, as I finished ROTK last week. I read The Silmarillion last month. I truly love this story!

Just post over on Grand Bob's group when you can.

Did you read all the rich material in the appendices after finishing RoTK?

Yeah, I'm still reading but I'm falling waaaaaaay behind. Work is KILLING me right now and I have absolutely NO TIME for anything... last weekend was my father in laws 50th b-day and also their 29th wedding anniversary so I didn't have my usual weekend to catch up either... I feel bad cuz I really wanted to stay on pace... and it just didn't happen

Spot reading it right now when I can. Tolkien sure has thought of just about everything. It just underlines how massive of an undertaking this story was for him.

That's why they almost bankrupted the company making a certain other fantasy film. They thought that just because LoTR was fantasy, that all fantasy films would do well. They still probably don't get it.

Yes they are hailed as the best movies of all time just look at where it is on imdb. And ROTK won 11 oscars and FOTR 4 oscars. TTT 2 oscars. Combined 17 oscars for the trilogy.that is very impressive. Not to mention the raving reviews everywhere!

I think this is proof enough

Avatar isn't even in the same league as LOTR. Avatar is a rehashed story of Dances with wolves and Pocahontas.
I like Avatar but it is nowhere as brilliant as LOTR and you know it because avatar is "Dances With the Smurfs"

+1 to mredman's post.

LOTR maybe different from books but still are brilliant movies.

I also liked Avatar. James Cameron is genius.

But Terminator 2(another masterpiece) >>>>>> Avatar

Is this worth buying. I still have a raincheck from Target for 59.99, and also have a $15 gift card, bringing the price down to aroung $40 with my discount. I really want this, as I already own both theatrical and EE on DVD, but should I just wait for the EE's on blu ray. Just looking for thoughts. Thanks all!

To me, the AQ alone is worth it. There is some controversy about FoTR's PQ but all 3 films, to me, look better than they did in theatres.

yep i was also very pleasantly surprised by how good FOTR actually looks when some people where saying it looks bad. because that couldn't be farther away from the truth. Its not reference but the PQ is solid i would say. And TTT and ROTK looks fantastic

Thanks a lot for posting those pictures. I'd told myself to hold off from buying until the EE's come along but if the price drops far enough, I still might crack and get this sleek-looking set. So all three movies are in one case with this new packaging?

All 3 movies were in one case with the old packaging too, pretty sure the only difference is no digital copies.

No worries. We aren't on a specific schedule. Just come over when you can. Like Grand Bob said, the journey is half the fun.
