If the movie has those black sidebars already, I don't change to 4:3. Grey and black bars are annoying. I watch in Pure mode and don't have any problems with shadows of vertical lines afterwards.

I have both the 111 and 151 and I think they both work the same way so I will check the settings and owner's manual, maybe I have something set up wrong. I thought Dot by Dot would display a 4:3 movie as 4:3; it may be the blu-ray player as broadcast tv works fine.
