From what I've seen elsewhere, the answer is no.

IGN tested this and said no. I haven't verified this myself yet (too busy playing GH3 than to play the older ones )

If you want to be able to play GH1/2 on the PS3 then the best way I found (and have tried) is to use a RadioShack USB to PS2 converter. I tried the Pelican converter to be able to play GH2 on the pS3 and it failed horribly. I grabbed the RadioShack one (had it laying around, have it to use PS2 controller on the PC), plugged it in and it almost worked fully. All fret buttons work. The Up/Down is reversed (a pain in the menus, doesn't make a difference in the gameplay). The Whammy bar doesn't work at all.

Thought I'd throw that out there for anyone interested~

What's the actual name of the "Radio shack converter", considering local Radio Shacks sell ~4 different converters.

I tried my GH3 controller with GH1...doesn't work...this is confirmed by IGN as well.

Pisses me off...

man....that's retarded. I thought part of the appeal for getting guitar hero on ps3 as opposed to another console was that you could play all the ps2 versions which means you would have access to all the guitar hero games ever made thus far. pretty lame that the guitar doesn't work...

Yeah, it's a drag.

GHIII is worth it just to have La Grange, though.

Yeah...it was about 50% of the reason of my buying GH3...they were kind of misleading up until release day, and then they said "no...doesn't work with the old ones"

There are other problems with the game too...Online Play basically doesn't work (it won't connect to a game 99% of the time), some songs are only unlockable in CO-OP mode...but extra guitars outside the Game Bundle itself won't be available until February (I went through co-op on easy with my girlfriend, she used the guitar and I used a regular sixaxis, just so we could unlock the other songs).

Not to mention controller problems...

La Grange is definitely one of the best songs on there...the rest of the song selection isn't very good though. There are a couple GREAT songs, and a BUNCH of crap...especially in the later tiers.

That's the magic of this game - even the songs I would never listen to normally are fun.

I like the looks of the song list for Rock Band better - may have to get that one as well.

Someone claiming that their taste in music is universal? Unheard of!

I couldn't disagree more. To me this entire line up is phenomenal. Way better than any prior Guitar Hero game.

BLASPHEMER! Metallica's One? Slayer's Raining Blood? Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast? DragonForce's ANYTHING?? The later tiers are the only ones worth playing! I banish you to Lo-Fi Hell.

I swear to god Raining Blood has got to be the hardest song ever, until i beat it, but took me a while to be able to do it, still got low score but passed it. And that was on easy, (first time GH player). Im hoping some kind of patch will work for the older models in the future.

You'll get better. The learning curve on these games is great.

I agree with the song list on Rock Band...plus the promise of having a lot of downloadable content.

They were saying that GH3 would have downloadable songs for the PS3 and the 360 alongside with the launch...which was a complete lie.

The guitar for Rock Band looks awesome too.

P.S. GH3 is easy...I failed 2 total on Hard...I've haven't failed on on expert yet (I'm at 36 out of 42 songs)...course, I'm definitely not looking forward to Raining Blood on expert...it's probably the only song that is any sort of challenge (that plus the end of One and then the Lou battle which a majority of that battle seems to be luck).

Yup - plus it is more functional with playing on the upper frets etc.

I am really stoked about the drums as well.
