Just pre-ordered Seven Samurai. $34.99 is high but it may be a 2 disc set (I have a feeling it may get a different type of case we haven't seen before with CC blu-ray. We may get the official date in 10 days. . .

Has anyone spotted M at Best Buy early yet? I was doing a store check on their site and usually it will say COMING SOON but says store pick up NOT AVAILABLE which looks to me a bad sign. Was dying to get my hands on this one.

I have a better feeling that you'll see a different type of CC blu-ray case before "Seven Samurai" ever gets released because there is the 3-disc "By Brakhage" release coming out this month and also the 2-disc release of "The Leopard" in June.

I predict digipaks making a comeback.

i hope criterion is able to branch out and have a variety of cases like they used to with dvd's. all the people complaining about the uniformity of cases need to calm down, they will still look fine on your shelf if they are different heights...let criterion have the creative freedom they want. they treat us well, lets treat them well too.

No doubt it will be a 2-disc release. It is nearly 3 and a half hours long film, has two audio commentaries and few hours of bonus features.

I have no problem with digipacks done right--- ie Battle of Algiers, Bicycle Thieves, Antoine Doinel.

I just don't want to see those cardboard things come back or smedium cases like Marienbad (Just removing the disc container from the sleeve with the book in place was a chore).

If they make the digipaks similar to the DVD ones, just slightly shorter to match BD sizes, I think they would be great. The problems with the first run of BD digipaks weren't inherent to all digipaks - they were simply a result of trying to use a normal slipcover instead of the proper 3/4ths slipbox that digipaks normally come in.

I didn't mind those cases on DVD at all. I think the issue was the early paper cases for Bottle Rocket etc were just not a high quality thick paper stock and would bend easily and opened from top to bottom.

I like how Criterion did the two packs for CHE, Yojimbo and Sanjuro. Had a really nice hard outer case and discs in standard BD cases they use.

They could put out really good cases that are the same for say releases like Seven Samarai etc they just need to keep thinking keep them just as thick but just shorter that is all they have to do is make the cases shorter keep the nice thick paper stock. Cases for The Furies etc are really cool on DVD.

some want the slimest cases possible but I say keep them special, I don't care how many DVDs and Blus I own, it isn't like I won't by a release cause the case is thicker than a reg BD case. besides I think the standard BLUE BD cases are kind of ugly. They are ok but not pleasing. The Criterion BD case is nice. very classy.

Insert my standard "cardboard sucks" rant here.

It's actually MUCH longer given that it will retain the other cut of the film "as an extra" in 1080i/p, so I'd almost have hoped for 3-discs just to assuage compression issues, but we'll see how the two-disc fares...

Are you talking about the titles that was just posted on the frontpage? The "Pre-orders" on Amazon? I highly doubt those are real, Amazon always does this with fake pre-orders. Now Thin Red Line, Antichrist and Seven Samurai is real, but those pre-orders seem fishy.

1st, I like to say, those pre-orders look like some dude on Amazon put the most mainstream movies you can find in the collection on pre-order and added a Wes Anderson movie that has never been rumored to even touch Criterion's hands.

2nd, just like the "pre-orders" for Amazon's Punch-Drunk Love and Chinatown, where are those at again?

I don't know why these were posted on the frontpage to be honest. Yes, I prob won't buy any of them (maybe the Thin Red Line) but I wouldn't be surprised by them coming out, I just think those are fake.

Oh and the guy on Amazon, even misspelled the title for The Darjeeling Limited. He put The Darjeeling Express. FAKE! People are still falling for it.

back to Criterion. which Criterion title is everyone spinning in their BD Player? i actually have make way for tomorrow SD =P. i luv it =)
Dillinger is Dead (I know it's not a BD title, but I'm playing it using my BD player ) Way off-topic, but I thought about this movie while doing genealogy research on my wife's family a few days ago, I found out that her great-grandfather was murdered in 1930s Chicago and the guy who murdered him (his brother-in-law, no less) tried to run away and was captured in East Chicago, Indiana by the same captain (Tim O'Neill) and his squad who supposedly had captured Dillinger exactly a month earlier. I know "Dillinger is Dead" is not about Dillinger himself, but I find that interesting .

Once I'm done with that DVD, next in my queue to watch is "Bigger than Life". I've been watching a lot of Criterion's title available for streaming on Netflix...except that some aren't Netflix's transfers Last title I saw was "The Most Dangerous Game" and their transfer is a colorized version of the movie

CG, you are always good for one cynical post per day, but this one is up there with the best. I think it would make your week, hell year, if this was false, just so the 'masses' would be disappointed. This way, CC could concentrate on 'real' films being released, right?

Real films? Okay dude, go ahead and pre-order The Darjeeling Express! That should be a real film.

They are fake. Instead of making smart remarks back to me, think of a time Criterion actually done this. Then think of a time Amazon has put up fake pre-orders, with misspelled titles.

The people that call me cynical is funny. I know I am in no man's land here with all of these zombies walking around with their Star Wars shirts on, but I am telling you this on past facts. No need to call me cynical. I know who I am.
