In my opinion, yes. I'd like to have all of The Simpsons and Family Guy on blu. (I couldn't care less about South park though.)

The reason I'm sticking with the DVD is that I don't want to switch to Blu half way through a series.

I'll just wait for a review. If it gets a good review I will get the blu-ray if not then DVD. If they do a good job, maybe this is a test to see if they can release the earlier seasons on blu-ray. If it does a good job then they may release seasons 1 - 12 on blu-ray. We will have to wait and see.

I'd rather they release seasons 14-19 on DVD.....Then maybe, MAYBE redo season 1-19 on blu.
They're already taking their sweet ass time releasing them alone on DVD. Now add more time to remaster them to blu? We may see season 19 in 2020.

I just find it hard for myself to justify buying any TV on blu especially a TV show that has been on standard def NTSC for more than half its life.

I think anyone'll tell you that the recent SP seasons look significantly better on BD than on DVD because they have a HD source to work from.

The only question for this release is "What's the source?" for these BDs. I don't know their process (maybe someone can inform me) but it's very doubtful there would be any improvement of The Simpsons of this era without some sort of re-rendering of the animation.

If this "The overseas studios then draw the inbetweens, ink and paint, and render the animation to tape" is still correct then these episodes would probably need to go back to this stage and be rendered to some sort of HD medium to take proper advantage of the BD format. If the original elements exist, this is possible, but pretty doubtful as I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap. And since it wasn't done for the S20 BD release, I'm very dubious that it'd be done here.

But I'm no expert, hopefully someone more in the know will chime in.

Yeah I don't really see the point of releasing old TV shows if they're not in wide screen format. I understand the reason for releasing older movies that may have been shot in letterbox, but I don't think there's ever been a TV Show that sold so well on DVD that would be necessary for a Blu-Ray release. The more the studios focus on older shows/seasons, the less they will focus on recent HD shows that are more ready to go. Seriously, they're just waisting time and money on older footage.

YES! Another season! Season 20 was cheaper to import on blu than the DVD version, so it was a no-brainer for me even though the packaging didn't fit with the other seasons!

These sets will probably cost around the same, and if thats the case I'm all in for the blu versions..

I'm not too much of a fan of the show anymore, but that is one awesome pic of Ralph. We can only hope for previous seasons on Blu in the near future.

But that older footage could have been shot on film and thus can be given the HD treatment... I can see what you mean from an 'economic' standpoint, perhaps, but that's not gonna make me stop hoping that older shows shot in 4:3 get a release. I'm sure a fair amount got reasonable DVD sales, I don't see how their widescreen-ness should affect studios decision...

Since 2000, Simpson's are animated digitally at 640x480. So the source is 480p. Altought it might still appear better on Bluray because of the Bandwidth is has.

Not for me, unless they are in 1.78. I'll buy the seasons that are, for the ones that aren't I just don't see the point of investing twice as much to buy the Blu's. In fact, since they are rerun so constantly, I don't even need the regular DVDs if they aren't in widescreen.

I've been watching the show on my local HD channel since 2003 and it *always* looked better on the HD channel. Better color, little to no compression artifacts and Dolby Digital sound. Since DVD is still bandwidth limited, and only 480i, it will still look better on the Blu-ray.

Not to mention BDs are more robust than DVDs. They can also fit more programs per disc so less disc swapping.

The show isn't animated digitally. Starting in the 14th season they changed from hand inked to digitally inked. The show has always been drawn by hand.

That's why I only watch the later episodes of Gilligan's Island and Bewitched in Black and White because the first season was...

wait what?

I hope they just go back and get the earlier seasons out on Blu Ray rather than getting 14-19 released. It's not like those seasons are good, anyway.

Since they can't really improve the quality much, it'd be awesome if the set was one or two discs
