This is silly, if you're unhappy with the warranty why buy the product? Expecting a PS3 (or any device) to last 5 years is absurd. Yes they do sometimes, but only a few companies could afford to give a warranty for the 5-year length you desire. It is not a viable for most companies. With exception of ZIPPO (they make lighters with a life-time warranty) and my car (a Honda) I cannot name one product I own with a longer warranty than 2 years, unless I purchase additional protection.

Products break, sometimes early and sometimes late. If early, often a consumer has an option to buy additional protection (beyond a standard warranty), if late usually the consumer is out of luck. I believe it is good for consumer when companies offer an option for extending a warranty. I don't often take it, but I like the choice to be there. And for me to make it.
