Question

Is it common procedure here to open specific threads for the films which Criterion releases or is this discussion thread everything there is?

Cause it is way too much random talk if this is all things Criterion.

Nope, this is ALL THINGS CRITERION. Everything usually gets discussed here... new releases, upcoming releases, older releases, standard DVD releases, and a slew of other ridiculous topics.

There have only been a couple of instances, I believe, where someone has created a thread for a specific Criterion. But, anyone that knows anything knows that it should go in this thread.

So, I hope that helps answer your question.

Yes but wouldn't it be a) better publicity for the releases and b) much easier to find all crucial information for all things criterion if there were seperated threads?

Yes, but as it is, The Criterion Collection is still considered a niche product in the realm of mass-marketing. We're lucky enough to have this thread stickied along with the Kino thread and Studio Canal thread... and, also the Masters Of Cinema thread and BFI thread over in the European section. The new announcements still get recognized on the front page of blu-ray.com, though, so that's good. Honestly, anyone could start up a new thread for each release, but I still think that most of the discussion would be found in here.

If you don't already go there, criterionforum.org is a good place to go for thread-specific title discussion. As far as I know, all of Criterion's releases have their own thread.

Criterion Forum has threads for every title (and more).

This thread is more or less for general discussion of Criterion Blu-ray titles already available, upcoming or rumored.

I second ccfixx's suggestion to visit .org for separate threads for each individual release. A really great tool if you want discuss or find out about a specific film from Criterion. Only thing is there aren't separate threads for the DVD and blu releases for the individual films. These threads are more about the film content than the physical release (AV quality, packaging etc.) I believe http://www.criterionforums.com/forums/index.php also has film-specific threads organized by spine number.

I also agree with ccfixx that we are fortunate that this website
(blu-ray.com) has so eagerly embraced Criterion. As he noted already, they've stickied some of the best art-house companies out there (MOC, Kino etc.) and they announce new Criterion releases on their front page. I don't think there's any doubt that there are now many new Criterion fans due to the efforts of this website. Keep up the great work!

I'll let you, and everyone else for that matter, know what I've been doing in regards to Criterion titles being discussed........

Ex: if someone creates a thread for Walkabout, or The Last Metro, etc.... it gets merged here..... When someone creates a thread for The Thin Red Line, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, or Seven Samurai, they will be left separately since they typically appeal to many more people, so I don't try to redirect everyone to this thread..... It's all subjective (like Bottle Rocket is a "fringe" title, or "Following" because the directors have made many other mainstream films that have brought mass-appeal attention to them, so may justify separate threads, but it'd depend on the mood I'm in )

It's a science.......buckshot style

Just watched Sanjuro again last night. Kurosawa, Criterion and Blu-ray...a match made in heaven.

My copy shipped today via Amazon Prime. However, Amazon Prime ususally ships all my blu-ray pre-orders out on Fridays.

I received an e-mail today from Criterion stating that my order of M is on its' way.

Oh, and for those who were wondering, they did honor the 25% off sale price in effect when I pre-ordered.

If anyone is looking to get "M" for cheaper than $34.99 (price on Amazon at this time), gohastings.com has it for $26.99 (but you have to pay tax on it). I traded my standard def copy in today at my local Hastings to make space for the blu-ray.

Amazon shipped my copy of "M" earlier today for $30.99. I just looked on their site, and saw that the price is now $34.99. I am looking good on that deal.

Oh happy day! Criterion just announced Videodrome on blu-ray. I don't have their dvd version, but have read about what that entails and hope they will have at least as much on their blu version. I just have the standard Universal, non formatted for widescreen dvd version.

That's good news. I have all of May and June's releases on pre-order from Criterion using the 25% AFS code. $24 for each blu is a pretty good deal these days. Only thing is I have to wait until the end of the month for M because it will be shipping with Walkabout, Brakhage and Stagecoach.

Also has anyone seen M at their Best Buy? Curious to see if this month's releases will also be $29.99.

Yeah, for anyone who pre-ordered the April releases, they took the 25% off from the March AFS code. So atleast I knew since last month that they still took it off for pre-orders. I wish they still had it. It was only $3 more per title than a B&N's 50% sale.
