LOTR x3, Aliens, The Abyss, and Terminator 2 are all films where the extended edition is really the definitive version of the film.
With LOTR is important. With The Abyss the movie makes no sense without it. But, slapping on a few minutes to call it a special edition isn't what the idea is all about. It's about giving the director the opportunity to present his movie without the usual limitations and pressures imposed by studios and theater owners wanting, to cram as many shows as possible into a day, or to fall under some arbitrary count of swear words or breasts to get a certain rating. I means nothing if the director didn't give approval. Gary |
