donaldsonjune,

I replied to your PM. I'm using my C-C50 as a surround speaker. If you had a spare C-100 speaker, I'd be happy to trade. Good Luck finding your center channel.

EDIT: this is what they just told me: "Centers are uniquely designed to project an even sound from the middle, the only way it would be superior is if you ran the center channel signal to an amp and then ran 2 centers". "a single driver will not have enough range to fulfill the requirements of the center channel signal."

EDIT: Posted this in the audio theory and discussion thread and had it answered. I will try to acquire 7 RC-10's. Looks like I'll have to buy 4 pairs though and just store or sell the extra one.
The RC-LCR is designed to disperse the sounds a bit differently than the RC-10's, mostly due to they know it can be difficult to place center channels in an ideal spot. Personally though I think just running a bunch of RC-10's would be great and I wouldn't dump twice as much for the RC-LCR (which is exactly why I don't have one.. A pair of RC-10's for half the price of one RC-LCR, making an RC-10 about 1/4 the price).

Does $1,200 sound like a good deal for 4 pairs of RC-10's? Since they are only sold in pairs I'll have to get 8 speakers and just have one leftover, guess I could always sell the extra one and that would cut down on the actual costs for the system as well.

Yes it is an excellent price for 8 RC-10 300$ a pair is excellent.

They retailed at about 550-600$ a pair and was voted the best bookshelf for under 1000$ pair back in 2006 by soundstage.

Thanks for the input. My only reservation before pulling the trigger is I'm afraid since they are a bookshelf speaker they won't be as good as a floorstander speaker? Am I wrong to think like this. It seems like a floorstander has so much more size and drivers that it would be better for movie watching?

Look if you have a great sub then it really is not a problem to be honest they extend quite low and you could really be surprised on what this bookshelf can achieve.

Tremendous value and it will outperform a lot of lower end floorstanders.

They can handle up to 175 watts rms, not that it matters that much but the extend at 50hz +/-3 db. Set the X-over to 60hz on the receiver for all speakers and you will see how great they really are.

I know you're kind of doing a blind buy but they are easy on the ears smooth mids and highs and can fill a room quite large.

Honestly I almost rather have a 7.1 RC-10 then my Connoisseur C-Series setup.

Of course my C-500 have more bass and can rock but the sound is even better with th RC-10 you hear things that you don't even distinguish in the C-500.

What receiver are you planning to use with them?

Thanks for the invaluable input. I think I'll pull the trigger. At worst, if I didn't enjoy the sound (sounds unlikely (no pun intended, LOL), then I'd only lose out on paying to ship them back. Everything I've read seems to think they are amazing speakers for their size and price. I guess I just need to get out of my thinking that bigger is always better with speakers. By the way, my subwoofer is the BIC H-100 and it packs a wallup for sure.
My receiver is the new Onkyo 608.

When paired with a good sub, bookshelfs will perform as good as towers in a HT application.

I actually have been considering bookshelfs in my next setup with Dynaudio speakers because I cannot afford the towers. I would not go from towers to bookshelfs if I was gonna lose anything.

For straight 2-channel music w/o a sub, towers are typically better because they will provide the bass your looking for in a speaker in that type of application. However there are some bookshelfs that have good slam.

Beta Man uses B&W 700 series bookshelfs in his HT, Hamp uses Monitor Audio RX2 bookshelfs in his HT application. I know there are several others too. There is one person using eD WT 6T6 bookshelfs, and his is just like your thinking, he has 3 of them upfront behind his drop down screen.

I have C-300s that have a single driver in my towers and I can say they play a lot better then the Polk TSi 400s that have 3 drivers.

You really want to have good mid-range and highs from the fronts because you will have a sub for the deep lows. Your gonna be fine.

They are Small but really they sound big!!!

I'm sure you'll be surprised and amazed by their performance.

Don't forget a good 100 hours break in for the RC.

I believe they will open up alot after this I mean they may even sound muffled in the begining with dialog so it's kind of hard to judge a speaker when you get it out of the box. Most speaker performance and or sound does not change alot after break in but Energy sound quite different with time you hear them evolve.

Other companies also have tremendous sound difference after the break in period like Totem Accoustic.

Dynaudios are said to not sound very good until after the 200-300 hour mark

Totem varies alot from one to another since theyare using diferent drivers in each of their Speakers. If i'm not mistaken Model One and Forrest are still using Dynaudio Drivers.

What really amazes me is they are even using diufferent drivers from bookshelf to Tower in the same Speaker family to get even better timber matching because of cabinet constraints in the bookshelf. Example the Dreamcatcher has aluminum and the Arro has a soft dome tweeter but are part of the same family and they make a great combo.

I believe most of their Aluminum dome tweet are MB Quart.

Break in can go from 40 to 200 hours depending on model for Totem.

Well another reason why I bought a 2nd set of the C-100 is because one of my C-100 doesn't sound right with the other one. So what I did was bought the 2nd pair and I left the bad speaker out. I had it worked on through warranty last year but it looks like it wasn't resolved so I didn't bother calling back or I didn't feel like shipping it back out.

So right now I have (3) C-100 speakers, and the C-C50 as my surrounds.
