I then stated that the pq would have a noticeable increase just buy using a bigger disk and higher bitrate alone.
There may be a very small increase in sharpness, thats it. It will be barely noticeable. It will make the grain even worse. A new master will not take out the grain or make detail appear sharper. It would take a digital restoration to make it shine.

So an AVC encode may enhance sharpness a little, but it will enhance the grain.

Personally I hate grain. Digital disc with absolutely no grain is my preference. For people who like grain, go buy a film projector and watch your movies on that.

For people who hate grain, go turn on your noise reduction settings and let those of us who enjoy watching a faithful representation of a movie enjoy the full potential of the blu-ray disc

When movies are scrubbed of grain they also usually lose detail in the process. If you hate grain just buy new movies only.

And that's the issue. There's the possibility, even the probability, that it can look better. You're the only person saying it will look noticeably better. Not that it can or should.

Dude, you guys understand if they sharpen the picture any more the grain will be more pronounced. I mean grain or no grain, too much can be distracting in my opinion. With noise reduction you loose detail. Like I said if you love grainy movies then get a projection reel, and watch your movies that way. I am not trying to put anybody down. Just simply that a lot of people *****ed about the grain in the first Predator blu ray. Out of all my blu's I think Predator was the worst as far as grain.

Blu Ray disc= Digital video and digital sound. It's the 21st century *******. Disc are not the same as film.

the discs are supposed to REPLICATE the film as much as possible. this disc is NOTHING but a storage device, not something to make everything shiny and new

Apparently some further conditioning is required for these DNR lovers. Some of them will never understand that a movie is not a video game or is it ever intended to be.

And for those of you that don't like grain, go buy a ****in' PS3 game and play it all ****in' day. This is the ****in' movie blu-ray forum, not the ****in' game forum.

Exactly.

Removing grain = removing detail.
