Maybe the OP has gone over to the dark side and he doesn't see the Sith as "all that bad"
I mean, let's completely ignore that the Emperor was responsible for abolishing the Senate and the mass slaughter of the Jedi and blowing up an entire planet just to prove a point. Yup, if you ignore that, the Sith really aren't all that bad......... ![]() Logan |

Destroyed a planet
Killed indiscriminately Torture Killed younglings (Blame Lucas for calling them that ![]() Wiped out all Jedi (apart from 2) all that power and he could not find them ![]() Started a war to take over the senate Killed partners in said war Abolished said senate Hostile takeovers of business Allowed own troops to die in meteorite belt Chopping of limbs (own son for goodness sake. How bad does Vadar need to get). Loads more stuff to rank the Empire up there with the worst of them. Then again, the Rebel Alliance was just a terrorist organisation that won. So if the winners wrote history, the Empire may of been good but with bad press. ![]() |

While your right that the Empire had many other people including the semi-human individual in my Avatar doing atrocities in his name. He ruled by fear and intimidation, anyone in the Empire realized they would be killed for even minimul disobediance to his rule. The only individual in the Empire that didn't fear the Emperor was Vader. |

Yes if you start with episode 4 there could be a little confusion as to why the rebel party is going after the Empire to bring them down.
However doesn't Lucas tell us in the prequeals that it was once just the democracy of the republic, and that things started to happen once a Sith came on scene? And now they are holding a planet hostage and invading them. Then they try to assasinate a Senator and are contriving a plot to bring a bunch of planets together to form an alliance against the republic. Then they attack the peace keeping jedi's and seek out Senators that are not in favor of the new dictator ship..... pretty much that is 3 movies prior to Star Wars. So since its only been 20+ years since the Sith and the Empire took over, and the oppressed people of the republic are still fighting to gain back their control of the universe. Hence, now we have the start of the 2nd trilogy. So all in all, NO Star Wars was not a conceptual failure. Understand that Lucas had developed a back story to these movies well before the prequels came out, even before Star Wars did in 1977. Sorry that you feel he needed to tell you all of this ahead of time. As it was said, he pretty much lead you to know that yes these were the bad people. Just as a side note, There was originally supposed to be 9 episodes. However with the books that were written, he decided not to pursue the last 3 episodes. It just goes to show that the story was meant to be much bigger then the first (1977) movie. |
