If not, unless I got the wrong impression, I think you and others made that point quite repetitively and ‘with gusto’.
However, who am I to argue with someone who recognizes the fact that, as you so eloquently stated, “As far as overall quality, I'd have to disagree with your WB assessment, and place Sony at the top of the heap. Warner may spend more, but Sony, release after release, has better overall quality.”

As long as you feel that ^ way Robert, I have absolutely no problems with your postings.

Carry on, if you are so inclined.
Just re-checked, and everything appears to be there, and in unexpurgated form.

You have no idea what it's like to keep watch over a thread that goes over 5 pages! Well, possibly you do. Let's see 1.2 million posts =...

Is this why Lionsgate is releasing some of Paramount's catalog? Licencing their titles can be profitable for both the big studio that owns them and the small studio that releases them? I wish more of them did the same then.

The situation with Lionsgate releasing Paramount catalog titles could also have something to do with the limited partnerships which often exist in many movie projects. Various investment groups may be involved. A movie project may be handled by more than one production company. A film distributor such as Paramount is another link in that business chain. Contracts will vary regarding theatrical distribution, home video distribution and other methods of distribution. Terms also change over time.

One good example of this is the number of movies produced by Castle Rock Entertainment. In the 1990s many of its movies were distributed by Columbia/Tri-Star. Then Castle Rock made a deal with Warner Bros. Now WB can release catalog titles on home video that were produced by Castle Rock and distributed theatrically by Sony.

Then you and I may be part of a very select group to know what very major 2-D film is going to be making the "upgrade" to 3. While neither you nor I can discuss on the web, in a general sense, what is your feeling?

Jeff,

Killzone 3 in 3D. Am I the only one who is concerned that Killzone 3 being in 3D could be taking away processing power to give it a fantastic 2D presentation?

Alan Wake is still awesome. I gave in and bought Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Im unsure whether to start that or RDR next.

Eurogamer seem to love it....

It's perhaps not a huge surprise. PS3D has been common knowledge for some time now, and it makes perfect sense that one of the platform's flagship series be earmarked for the technology's release. What is a surprise is how well it all actually works.

I manage to plumb the centre seat, which apparently gives the best impressions of the 3D magic at work, but the appreciative noises emanating from the journos either side of me are reassuring. We play through the same section again, although the pad remains firmly in the hands of the studio representative.

Straight away there's an immediate impact. The weighty, long-barrelled minigun has a real presence in-screen, highlighting the fact that the majority of Killzone's 3D trickery is done via the impression of depth rather than projection. Shuffling behind cover emphasises the effect superbly, each vanishing line and focal reference point making the illusion ever more real.

The game's particle effects really come into their own under the influence of the active shutter glasses too. Snow seems to swirl very distinctly in front of the screen, its fluttering hypnotism starkly punctuated by the bullets which zip and zing towards you. We're told there's a lot of work to be done on the perfection of the 3D yet, and in certain effects that's obvious, but generally the whole effect is a mesmerising one, drawing you into the screen and surrounding you with it, generally just in time to recoil from a projectile or ten. It also adds a competitive advantage, allowing players to judge the jetpack jumps with much greater accuracy. How that will skew the playing field between 3D enabled multiplayer users and their dimension-poorer counterparts remains to be seen.

In one of the more static moments, our demonstrator places a D-charge on the AA battery, the focus and lack of movement allowing a more advanced 3D technique to be used. It's startling how much depth is added to the scene. This is a fairly strenuous technique in terms of brain capacity, though, and we're informed that it's something which won't be happening too often. "If we were to do this during a combat scenario, your eyes would tire, your brain would malfunction. This is a game we want people to be able to play for hours at a time."

Judging by what's been shown so far, I can't see that being a problem.

Its really time for Insomniac to announce Resistance 3. Im going to be very unhappy if it doesn't come out by November. We put up with major games being pushed back last year, Im not going to be so forgiving this year.

So far LittleBig Planet 2 is the only major PS3 exclusive announced for the 4th quarter and if that ends up being all they have the PS3 can look forward to a bad holiday.

Nevertheless, its still WAY too early to worry about the 4th quarter gaming slate, so Ill be patient.

I will mention that the games that got pushed back that I was super excited for (Bioshock 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction) ended up not being as great as I was hoping for.

I think it looks like Sony are pretty confident of their E3 lineup to announce two major titles already, and yeah R3 must be on the cards for E3 as Ted Price has gone on record saying that the new IP will not be at E3 it would make sense for R3 then something new for end of 2011.

Since Gears of War 3 was announced for April 2011, it would seem like Insomniac would want to try and get Resistance 3 out this year so they dont to compete with Gears of War 3 from dual console owning gamers (such as myself, but I saved up for both).

Technically the Green Hornet stuff being done in 3D was CG and had not been rendered yet, so it's not technically a "convert".

I am neither going to confirm nor deny what you are saying about an unannounced project.

In general, my personal feelings are pretty much irrelevant because everyone’s personal experience with a particular motion picture may vary from mine or yours. For instance, if they ever dimensionalized the motion picture which I viewed with my then girlfriend, the night I proposed to her to be my wife…I would have no personal inclination ever to watch it in 3D for ‘entertainment purposes’.

Professionally speaking, I have no qualms about 2D -> 3D conversions, as long as -
1.In cases in which the Director is still living, he gives his permission to do so.

2.The conversions are done well…because then, they can look pretty darn good.

In regards to the later, for those who don’t believe me and would rather trust an independent blogger with absolutely no studio affiliation, here are his thoughts after viewing one company’s showreel…

I was under the impression THE GREEN HORNET was a 'standard' live-action movie with CG effects. Are you saying it is in fact a full-CGI feature? I was not aware of that.

He's saying the FX would me rendered native 3D instead of being converted just like the 2D footage

So basically it will be just like CLASH OF THE TITANS then? Or any other effects-heavy 2-D shot movie that is later converted to 3-D?

Clash was a straight up conversion. There was no time to re-render the FX

Basically all the FX are native 3D, and then processed 2D is composited with it.
One would hope they're doing the same with Potter 7.0

Told you this was coming

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/26/te...er=rss&emc=rss

The DOJ will have absolutely no trouble finding witnesses from all over the entertainment industry

With Apple passing MS in revenue this year, prepare for the smack of justice, and remember that MS never refused to sell Windows to OEMs, while remaining guilty of many of the same crap Apple's trying to pull.

Never thought we would be seeing the say where we were defending MS on this forum.

Nevertheless, you have to give Apple props for convincing the world that they were the good guys and the underdog.

MS is no saints, but I can think of far worse companies out there.
