well i guess then now we can all say last season finale's "shock" ending was a very bad move by the writers. Because after this news i can't see him picking up his serial killer habits now. Damn those idiotic writers for ruining an excellent show

For f*ck's sake, at least allow the damn show to begin the 5th season before you declare the finale of season 4 a failure.

Seriously, I don't think they would have made such a HUGE decision to do that without having some idea what they'll do. Honestly I think the show will be much darker. Considering he had such a hard time letting people in, then he finally did. Now all he can do is kill. Most likely he'll take it out on those people even more.

Actually right after the finale aired I remember reading an interview where they stated they had absolutely no idea where they where going next, cause I remember being very pissed off that they would do something like that and have no idea where they where going next. I went off on one of my typical post show soapbox diatribes it's somewhere in the last Dexter forum if you want a good laugh or to see the article I was talking about.

But as for the poster who said he is going to be unable to kill, apparently you are not familiar with the mind of a serial killer. They don't get their feelings hurt or lose someone they "love" and than suddenly decide to stop killing, lol. If anything his Dark Passenger will probably be taking over completely to help him cope. He will probably be more aggressive and darker than we've ever seen him. The only thing that can stop a serial killer from killing is their own death.

Look, just because YOU don't have a problem slicing, dicing and julienning people, doesn't mean EVERYONE is that way.

That's true, but I'm sure they had something in mind. Just not definite. I think they can do something good enough to keep the show going.

I think he'll definitely kill a lot more

I'm happy they're gonna bring her back, even if it's just for one episode. I had a feeling they would. Personally I think it's gonna be really weird not having her there.

Maybe, I hope so. I always wanted to know her reaction to finding out. If that's true I'll be extremely happy. I guess they won't say anything about John Lithgow coming back because that could potentially ruin it. But the only thing is that something like that always comes out at least a couple weeks before.

The cast of Dexter will gather in early June to shoot Rita's funeral. I'm crying already...

In preparation, the Showtime series is on the
lookout for a funeral director and several mourners. Expect a closed casket, as Julie Benz will be busy following up her stint on Desperate Housewives by playing a super speedy mother in ABC's No Ordinary Family.

There will also be some new faces gathering around Dexter to fill the void left by Rita's tragic death. An "Agent Walker" will be a new male face at the FBI quarters, while a sweet 60-something couple named Molly and Bill should provide Dexter and his sister Debra with some much-needed extra hands in the raising of motherless kids Astor, Cody and Harrison.

The first thing I thought of when I read that was that she wouldn't believe him. Maybe he would have proof. He caught on to what he was doing so it's very possible that he got something out of it. He found out his real name, where he lived, previously lived, worked and about his family from what I recall. He had enough on him to convince her.

I was thinking maybe they would think he started a new pattern, or someone is copying him. Except that they think he skipped town, or the country... whichever.

I couldn't find anything on him coming back but I won't be surprised if you did read that somewhere.

John Lithgow recently revealed he will return in the fifth season of Dexter.
He played the Trinity Killer in the fourth season and although he has not filmed any new scenes he will however return in flashbacks from previous episodes.
The actor told Zap2It, “Ghosts hang over Dexter and continue to haunt him, so I figure I’ll probably turn up now and then, but I’ve done my last acting on Dexter. I certainly will be watching the new season.”
The fifth season of Dexter will premiere in September on Showtime.

I guess that means that he's not coming back, they're just doing flashbacks from S4?
