690 all the way! You need a Centre Channel way more than an amp IMO. Unless you are using it more for Music than Home Theatre.

I thought you already had the 690 though? Or did you have a problem with it or something. Had to send it back right?

That 690 will look purdy with your 100s.

That is F'd up. Was the box torn apart or was it due to the way it was packed?

$600 for any kind of used CC-690 is still a rip off in my book. Have you scanned Audiogon for a used CC-690 as well?

I was going to suggest that actually. But if you can wait and save up for the 690 then I think that's a better scenerio. Especially since you already have the 100s.

If you are really as young as your gallery says you are.....then my hat is off to you!!! It appears you would have an even smaller margin for error with your income and for things like this to happen with your gear. I applaude your resolve!!!

And yes, I am even more jealous now of your Studios than I was before......I can't believe the set-up you have for your age....amazing!

Default Paradigm sub & surrounds

Hello folks,
I need your help in a few areas, and hopefully you own or have heard the Paradigm speakers I'm going to mention. Hopefully this posting won't be too long, so bear with me please.

My set up currently follows :
Fronts.......Klipsch RF -3ll
Center.......Klipsch RC-3ll
Surrounds...Klipsch RS-3ll
Sub...........Klipsch KSW-15
Reciever...Onkyo TX-SR875
Amp for front 3 speakers....Emotiva XPA-3 ( on order )
The Onkyo will power the 2 surrounds when the Emotiva arrives.

Room size is 15' x 20' x 8' high and open to a kitchen on one side, living room on the other. I sit 10 feet from my Pioneer Elite PRO FHD-1.

I'm very strongly looking at the Paradigm Studio Series speakers....
Front's.... Studio 60
Center.... Studio CC-490
Surrounds...Studio ADP-590
Sub........SUB 12

This is a highly recommended speaker set up by my Paradigm dealer, and it has also been a highly recommended set up on Perfect Vision.
Now for my two questions.

SURROUNDS...since my surrounds are on the side walls and are about 8 inches from the back wall, would it be better to get the Studio 10's or maybe the Studio 20's for the rear surrounds over the Studio ADP-590's ? My reason is that some of the 590's speakers will ( may ? ) bounch off the rear wall. If I got either the 10's or the 20's I could mount them on the side wall and aim them where I wanted and no sound would bounce off the rear wall. They would be mounted about 6 1/2 feet high. And not to mention the 590's are about $1400.00 pair..while the 10's are $400.00 each or the 20's are $600.00 each....saving a few $$$$ would be great, but if the 590's would sound and work better, then they'll be chosen.

SUBWOOFER...while my current sub sounds good, it would be nice to get something better. I did not get to hear any of the Paradigm subs , since they did not have any in stock. They also sold both demos of the 12 and 15.

So, I somewhat find it hard to spend $2000.00 for the Sub12...let alone $2800.00 for the Sub 15. I'm open to suggestions for other subs that would hopefully be under $1000.00. I love good tight bass, and lots of it. And one that could work well in my size room. And I'm not opposed to keeping my Klipsch KSW-15 sub as long as it would sound good with the Paradigm's.
If you've heard the Paradigm subs, are they good ? Worth the $$$ ? I really can't afford the 15, so, would the 12 work for my room ?

I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THIS SET UP WILL BE USED ABOUT 95% MOVIES AND 5% MUSIC

Update...I also forgot to mention that this will be a 5.1 set up
Thanks in advance.

If your budget is anywhere near $2,000 (like around $1,500 to $1,700) for a subwoofer, look at the SVS PB13 Ultra or the cylinder sub, the PC13 Ultra. The return on your investment will astound you, not to mention how tight and accurate these subs can get all the way down past 15Hz....I am not kidding!

Here is a link for the box sub.... http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-pb13ultra.cfm

and here is a link to the cylinder sub... http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-cyl-pcultra_new.cfm

I would say on the subwoofer that you should look into JL Audio, eD, SVS, Hsu, Rythmik, and Sunfire. You should great value from any of these.

Interms of the surrounds, see if you can put them further back say 24-30 inches, or place them on the back wall if possible.

The Studios are great speakers, I would suggest that you go listen to a lot of other speakers also so you know what is exactly your perfect speaker. The Studios may be your perfect speakers, and if they are GREAT. I am a person that enjoys many different speakers and I think there are great speakers made by many other companies.

Check out this list of other speakers in that price range, they should all be relatively accessible to audition. I have no doubt you will know what to buy once your done... and it very well could be the Paradigms. I just don't trust someone else telling me (esp. a dealer) that this is the best system for me. I want to trust my own ears.

Revel Concerta F12s, Focal Chorus 816V and 726V, Monitor Audio RX8s, EPOS M16i, B&W CM7s, Energy RC-70s or 50s, PSB Imagine T, Dynaudio Focus 140s(bookshelf), Totem Staffs, Vienna Acoustic Bach Grands, Kef iQ90s.

Good luck with whatever you do... let know and we demand pictures.

I would have to agree with Fors*...look into a less expensive Sub like SVS, eD or HSU. That way you can take that extra money saved and go to the cc690 instead of the cc490. The centre is the most important speaker and you won't regret this upgrade.

I also agree with Callas...make sure that Paradigm is the right sound for you. Demo, demo, demo....it's the funnest part of buying speakers!

+1

Especially for a 95% HT setup the CC-690 is the way to go! It looks BADASS and performs just as good as it looks!! I've had 4 HT setups in my room in the past 2 years(Polk Monitors, Paradigm Monitors, Energy RC's and now my Studios) and with the front soundstage having the CC-690 nothing came close.

Ferrari Fan - You said your dealer highly recommends the Studios.. What else do they sell?

exactly,

I think I demo speakers, even tho I am not buying any, about once every 3-6 months. Mostly because I like to hear different speakers. I like to keep up to date on the way speakers sound. There are Many that I still want to listen to too.

Ferrari Fan, I do think if you went home with the Studios you would be very happy. What no one but you will know is were they the best speaker you heard OR the only speaker you've heard?

What you may find is that one speaker may have a wider soundstage, one may have more dynamics, one may be more detailed, one may have more fluid highs, and its hard to say what you will like the best. Until you compare a lot of speakers... oh, and don't be shy, take a note pad with you for notes. Initial impressions, lasing impressions, good and bad of the speaker, etc.

Ya, ya, I'm cross posting....sue me.

Looking at getting the basement done soon and I want wall mount speakers flanking my Kuro. I know that wall mounts generally speaking will never sound as good as floor standing ones, but I'm ok with that.

I'm currently looking at B&W FPM5's and Paradigm Millenia 20 Hybrids.

Wanting any opinions, ideally from people who actually have one.

Thx!
