Although I'm very against the rep system, I do have to say this: it's a pretty minor negative, despite my complaints, considering how many fantastic additions have been made to this site in even just the past few months. Price tracker, charts, release dates, etc., have really enhanced this site. Great work guys! I'll let this one slide

I have noticed that the number that appears next to the green square after you give rep doesn't really matter. Next time you give rep, refresh the page and check the post.

I'm pretty sure the equation for determining the amount of rep givin/taken away involves the rep of the "reper" and the "repee" and how many times the "reper" has given out rep during the 24 hour period that it is allowed to be used.

I got another negative rep because someone called me a fanboi of DTS HD? So if I like something, or a product. I'm a fanboi. ridiculous! I guess I'm going to "reserve" my opinion!

More people should do likewise. This "rep" system is new...let it play out first and then form an opinion. I have yet to give anyone any rep points and won't until I understand it better. Pro-B has said that there is a specific purpose for this that will be shared when the time comes. I'll wait till then!

I see what you're saying. The thing is, the system is pretty anonymous so you don't really know who's giving you the negative reps, especially when they leave comments in the section field, "immature", or "faniboi". I like everyone here that I meet, but when I get these anonymous negative reps. It makes me feel that the true haters have more walls to hide in.

This is worse than a 1 star thread rating.

I understand as well what you are saying, and there is no need for comments like that. I have some opinions on this matter, but like I said, I want more information before I enter into this minefield of discussion.

That's the real problem with the rep system. People who may be a little sensitive about saying things in public now won't say anything at all, due to fear of retribution. Now, you may say that reps mean little, that they're a minor part of this society, yadda yadda yadda. But if even one person holds their tongue due to fear of retribution, then the free exchange of knowledge has broken down. Once a person's been chastised, even for something that's patently minor or even untrue, they will think twice about speaking up again about anything.

And that's definitely not what a forum like this wants. It lives and dies by the exchanges among its members. If I wanted to research reviews on blu-rays, or equipment, or movies I could go to a million other sites. I visit blu-ray.com for its camaraderie-ship and my friends here, which puts it leaps and bounds over the other forums I attend. Once that kinship spirit is gone, there's nothing to keep many of us here.

I always sign my name to any rep I give, negative or positive. I have only given out one negative rep so far and it was for a completely unecessary post. Surprisingly I have not received any negative rep yet either, and I have been posting in a pretty hot thread. I guess thats just a great example of how a rep system can work when all members have a sense of maturity.

I'm excited for the PS3 feature!
I'll be all over that.

The website keeps log me out!!! Is anybody experiencing the same problem?
I never have to log in but now every time I just leave the pc idle for a few minutes, I have to log back in.
It is really annoying.

Not sure if this makes a difference but I am always logged in on my Macbook. But today when I use my parents PC I always have to log on with each visit even if I leave and come back 5 mins later.

I'm constantly logged in on my iMac; I've never had to log in except for the first time. Maybe you have an AV/Trojan program that's wiping your cookies?

Agreed.

Personally I hate any type of rep systems on forums, but hey ho, will see how this one pans out.
