500k players is not even close to the critical mass, and retailers will not stand for 2 formats once ite gets past the first aisle (Most Best Buys now have 3/4 of an aisle devoted in varying configurations). They will pick a winner after Christmas and so will Warner, and the entire industry not actively trying to save their jobs knows that will be Blu-ray

I don't have any proof, but I believe that with Amir, there also went the bottomless bribe checkbook, as I haven't even heard about pokings around with major payoffs since he got demoted. I seriously believe even Microsoft has adopted an "it's all fun and games tilll you hit half a billion", and they also know that if they ever want to work with Hollywood in the future(which they'll have to since they don't own any movie or music content), they need to stop poking the hornet's nest with a stick

This is the first week starting tomorrow where the real split between the 2 formats is going to start majorlly hurting the HDers. I believe that Spidey's combined single/box numbers will easily push us well into the 80s for the split, something I expect to be repeated and possibly even improved upon the following week for the Pixar blitz.

Shrek and bourne numbers will be bumped by the $99 players, but aside from some major deals I don't see the few new customers they had for them to move things one way or another that much. The price differential is simply too high, and any more than $5 and the vast majority will buy the DVD
You know I have always thought highly of you and you know that. But seriously that was the best post that I have seen by you ever. Quite possibly the best post I have ever seen on these forums. Haters are haters and I say ignore and shove them off all you want. Theres a reason why you are a MOD and you and Josh have always been my favorite. You two are honest (no offense to other Mods, I just see more posts by these two to come to that conclusion).

Listen, i have no problem with wickywoo. I'm only saying, just because hes saying something doesnt mean its a FACT. It doesnt matter who started the rumor, the fact that Wicky's sources, as well as Max's still led them to believe the conference was ging down isnt their fault.
Go ahead and question my sources all you want. As other people have said my track record from my sources have proven themselves extremely reliable both publically and privately. So unless you're willing to start naming names (via private message is fine) so that we can check out ourselves what you're saying. The problem is that it carries very little weight because I know my sources and Max's sources are at the very top levels. And yes, they'll tell Max things they won't tell me because of his position, and Penton's tippy-top people will probably tell him things they won't tell anyone else. The fact of the matter is that what you're saying directly contradicts what we're hearing from known old reliables is majorlly suspect(not that you're trying to decieve, but the accuracy of it). If you have new information, bring it on, but it must be vetted

Max on the other hand is fully vetted by the forum as being who he says he is, and has the resources to know these things. If Max says it on the forum, you can go to the bank with it because he doesn not make statements lightly. And I'm sorry, being fully vetted he has a lot more credibility than you or your sources do by default.

Like I said, I'm happy to believe you if you've got good info, but I'm pretty sure you're still talking to the bottom PR level people who are still under the old rules of the game that left with Nickerson

EDIT- Thanks for the kind words to all

I actually disagree, this would be a joint negotiation between mulitiple companies to offer a non-monopolized item at a lower price that is dictated by the competition.

Frankly I don't care where you are coming from. Nobody is perfect, but attacking the credibility of someone based on imperfection is inexcusable. Someone with no credibility does not get to freely attack the credibility of some who's earned it.

This is BLU-RAY.com. If you feel the need to mock or rail on Blu-Ray, or argue with the people with actual connections, do it elsewhere. Go to AVS and mock Wicky, they will worship you for it. Don't do it here.

Yeah go to the avs forum...............Oh thats right there is no AVS forum anymore. LMAO!

Funny thing is Amir is still posting in the Plasma forums now, occasionally you will get a HD-DVD burp out of him... LOL..... Funny thing is now since there HD-DVD and Blu-Ray sections are closed now people are invading other threads and there asking questions and taking over other threads even in TV and other totally off topic areas. Guy asked a question about HD-DVD hook up to his plasma and it became a HD-DVD thread.... go figure...

Or something like that. I actually went to AVS's HD-DVD player section. (Oh, the horror!) If anyone has more info, I'd very much like to see it.

I'm having a very hard time making a prediction because of this. I'm thinking probably 150k for SM3 + trilogy, plus the regular 90k + 20k of Meet the Robinsons etc. leftover sales for 260k for BD. The HD-DVD numbers will be something like the regular 60k + 10k of TF leftover sales + whatever gets scanned with the firesale players.

The numbers can be anywhere between 60:40 (assuming 100k giveaways) to 78:22 (assuming no giveaways). This is a handicapper's nightmare (and a valid criticism of Nielsen IMO, how they can be manipulated by manufacturers).

Just for the record, my prediction this week is 67:33. I already posted this prediction before I read the 130k SM3 (not including trilogy) and WickyWoo's comments. Looks like I overestimated the number of free DUDs that were scanned. Oh well, I hope I'm at least close on BD's totals.

enjoy

We would have, but i hear the free movies the 98bucks player were scan at the register so they count towards the numbers at BB only thought, so the WM numbers are somewhat null

Perhaps Blu will be higher but it's unfortunate that their little close out sale did move "some" crap movies.

Conscious parallelism is fine under antitrust precedent. But a horizontal agreement to set price is a per se violation as opposed to a rule of reason violation.

It is a very bad idea as I said before. I will stop here or otherwise I would have to start the clock.

While i still like the site for the TV stuff and some audio stuff. Been reading that the duds are moving to the other areas in avs and spreading the venom already, i hope their mods will catch this early on and dont allow the whole avs to be destroy by them.

Too late.

They should have just perma-banned all of them if they wanted control of their site back.

I do find it funny how a site that was well known for it's great AV info and impartiality has had it's entire reputation completely and utterly demolished by HDDVD zealots who embrace the lesser of two technologies only making AVS look worse.

I don't know of anyone who thinks AVS is worth even visiting once anymore. Friends of mine who have gone there for info read some of the zealotry and just leave as it's very easy to see the FUD and misinformation. Whether they know it or not, those HDDVD zealots over there are actually pushing more people to Blu-ray with all their rhetoric.

^ Embracing HD DVD is not the problem, it's the tactics used that turns off many enthusiasts. The hd dvd extremists who flocked there thinking it was their ground zero didn't quite understand that AVS is in the business of selling good quality products for the AV market, not $1 earphones on mp3 players.

It's historically not the right demographics that visits AVS, but the HDM section was taken over by the good-enough crowd spurred on my (in rare cases) shoddy moderating and the (now ex-)red general who's still nostalgic about the past.

If the owners of AVS actually bothered to read postings by the crowd who said "I spent $199 (now $99) of hard earned money on a player and anyone who wants to stop my ability to rent movies will rue the day", that should jar their senses that their advertisers generally aren't going to see any revenue from this class of membership. IE: these are the wrong members for AVS precisely because what AVS promotes, these people will never have the interest or ability to buy. Long term, having these type of members will hurt their ability to attract advertising revenue.

If you're not being sarcastic...

The Numbers are released the Friday after the sales week. So November 4th numbers should be released later today.

No, not being sarcastic, just wanted to see the results of the past crazy week. I still believe Blu-Ray will continue to maintain its lead. [Jim]
