I still buy/collect DVD Steelbooks, but only from movies that aren't likely to get any Blu-ray Steelbook treatment (soon).

Still in my main Steelbook closet are:

- The Big Lebowski
- Braveheart Definitive Edition
- The Departed (because I hate the Bluray Steels with non-English titles)
- The Incredible Hulk
- Jurassic Park Trilogy (this Steelbook costs a lot less space than any other trilogy release)
- Back to the Future Trilogy (ditto)
- Kingdom of Heaven Definitive Edition
- Predator Definitive Edition
- Reservoir Dogs
- True Romance
- Up (I don't like Jumbos)

I'm still trying to get V for Vendetta, Heat and Batman on DVD Steelbook. My Blu-ray Steelbook collection is outgrowing my DVD Steelbook collection though I'm also replacing the DVDs in these Steelbooks with Blurays.

Indiana Jones 4 and Rambo 4 both got DVD Steelbook releases in Holland.

Seriously though, I only started collecting steelbooks once I got into blu ray.

Would be interested to hear what dvd steelbooks were around and what the rarer ones are.

Maybe a dvd steelbook gallery thread would be nice??

I never collecte them like I colected BD Steelbooks, but I can tell you that worldwide there are well over 1000 DVD steelbooks released and many many of them were for complete garbage movies.

I also see this as the future of the BD steelbook. We have already had lots of garbage titles released and as time goes on, the BD steelbook release list will grow exponentially to the point of

I wish all of the remaining completist collectors the very best of luck, seriously

Cheers

That's an interesting prediction.

I must say I agree with you. Just looking at it from a UK point of view. We have (if my maths is correct) 20 blu ray steelbooks released over here. 8 of them are 2010 releases. In fact, half of them have been released since November 2009.

Seems their popularity is only growing.

I will take a look back through my collection manager, up to date to the end of 2009, and post some release numbers for 2007, 2008, and 2009

I actually have quite a few DVD steelbooks. Most of mine are for personal favorite movies or store exclusives that I could get (before ordering from other countries). There are tons of just absolute crap movies with steelbooks though, so it kind of sucks.

My favorite dvd steels that I own are:

Platoon
X-men 1.5 and 2 (never wanted to pay for the 3rd since I didn't enjoy the movie that much)
Death proof
Planet Terror
Boondock Saints
Cloverfield
Transformers (Decepticon)
Doctor who complete 4th season (thanks best buy price error, got it for $20)
Robocop
Beowulf.

I have quite a few other, but have stopped collecting them and now just grab BD steels every now and then.

Well here are some numbers

2007: 1 BD Steelbook released
2008: 79 BD Steelbooks released
2009: 155 BD Steelbooks released

I will say though that the numbers are based upon what my concept of a unique BD steelbook was during that time.

Also, 2009 does not include the numbers for the disney release in both Canada and the US, but only counts them once.

Cheers

I only have the TCM steelbook that I'm trying to get signed by Tobe Hooper and Gunnar Hanson. Already have a spot picked out for it too.
