It's the censored version. All but the 4 first shorts are from the digital files. It's a high bit rate AVC disc. The direct digital stuff looks excellent. The disc is released in Germany. I have it.

No PS3 is fast enough for that. But the transfer is direct digital where files survive.

No, it's not, and neither are the render farms that created them. I've been in the Sony Imageworks render farm (before they started doing CG features), and It was a room the size of a house, filled with multiprocessor (think 16, and nowadays more like 32) processor render farms with more RAM than you can shake a stick at.

On top of this, the software that designed all those early shorts is long gone. For example, Apollo 13 IMAX happened about 10 years after release. Well, all the software and the things it ran on was so long gone, that assembling the exact environment that made those renders work was nigh-impossible. A simple change can have catastrophic results in CG. When they re-rendered Toy Story they spent months going through everything and fixing all the bugs, and that's because they're Pixar.

And the PS3 doesn't even have close to the power to do even the early stuff. A CG movie is rendered, each shot, in dozens of tiny pieces. The dust when a character jumps down, the light reflections, the shading etc, and then all put together by the compositor.

That is great news - my daughter absolutely loves "Knick Knack". We watch it all the time after watching "Finding Nemo".

Lifted is the one with the UFO trying to abduct the sleeping person as was seen at the beginning of Ratatouille.
It is just about worthy of the price of the disc all by itself.
Before seeing the animated stuff I wondered if it would make that big of a difference in hi-def. Having now seen some I would have to say that the quality increase is even more noticeable.

ps3 should easily be able to render ' The Adventures of André and Wally B.' in real time without breaking a sweat.

Default Pixar Shorts shipping update

I know a few other's had theirs delayed, so I figured I would update my status.

Each day this week, the estimated arrival date pushed back a day, each day. This morning I checked, and my status changed to 'shipping soon'. Later this morning, I got a notice saying "Sorry for the delay, new expected arrival date would be the 14th, this coming Wednesday. I checked my account again, and sure enough, the dates had changed to next week, with a 'not yet shipping'.

And then I get home from work, and I have a shipping notice that it shipped today afterall.

Weird.

Happy I'm getting it finally though.

I received all three Pixar titles two days ago.

These titles must be flying off the shelves if people are having delay issues .

Default What's your opinion about the Pixar Short Films Blu-ray?

I thought all of them where going to be in 1080p, only 4 or 5 looked really good. Anyways my favorite was the one man band. The little girl is F'ing funny.

Like some others have said most of those shorts are on other releases and I can only imagine with the release of all the Pixar films they'll probably include them all. I didn't pick up that title, but I like Lifted on Ratatouille.

Do you mean the first review by Peter Bracke to receiver 5 stars on High Def Digest? because others have received 5 star reviews on there both HD-DVD and Blu-ray, just not by Peter Bracke

It would've been nice if this cost slightly less givne the content...but otherwise, it's great to have all of these in one place.

As for them not all being in 1080p...well, that's just the limitation of the source. The docu on Pixar is decent too, and that's in 1080p.

for me, it was understood that the older, earlier works wouldn't be as good as the later ones, video-wise.
