I wonder if anyone could possibly post a image of the Ultimate Collector's Edition standing next to a couple regular blu-rays? I would like to see how big it really is next to 'em. Would really appreciate it.

I saw that Rolan1919 had it in one of his photos and was kinda close to some blu-rays, but not exactly close and it was in a shelf that was hard to tell.

I've been thinking about gettin' it somehow, maybe Best Buy or another vendor on Amazon. But if it's like way too big, I don't wanna get it. But if it's only slightly bigger than the Dirty Harry collector's edition, I would be fine with it.

Casablanca was filmed in Black and White as were the majority of films of this era. The Blu-Ray edition is Black and White in keeping with the original movie.

+1. The "color version" was a Ted Turner colorization back when he owned the movie.

Since WB took it over (after Time Warner bought Turner), they've rightfully treated this movie as their Holy Grail. Ever listened carefully to the music of today's WB logo? It's a highly-stylized version of "As Time Goes By". That tells you just how much today's WB thinks of Casablanca. There's no way on earth they'd even think of colorizing it today--and that's a VERY good thing.

I feel sorry for every damn movie or tv show that Ted Turner ever got his grubby hands on. Colorization is as bad as New Coke.

Judging from this news post:

Quote:
They will be re-released in 2012 in special anniversary editions, which will include "stunning remasterings, spectacular Blu-ray debuts, new special features, Ultimate Collectors Editions and more."
Is it safe to say this new edition of Casablanca will have a new master? That would make double dipping much more justifiable.

4k restoration, AVC encode.
But since it's Warner they probably restored it in 4k and re-packaged their old transfer for the Blu-ray.

That would certainly be welcome. The Dolby track in the current BD was disappointing.

I hate those boxes.

Heres hoping Best Buy or Target sells a normal version.
*Also even it's entirely possible this is just the same disc in a new box like Goodfellas and Unforgiven.

Here's to hoping it's AVC and has DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0 this time around and not another lazy re-packaging.

A new release looking "better" is subjective but it sure can look more accurate. The current BD is DNR'd to hell and back.
