So.. If I bite on Arrt's C-500. Would the C-200 benifit me as surrounds because their bigger that the C-100's? Would my surronds sound better?

For example my new setup would be..

C-C100 Center
C-500 Front
C-200 Surrounds
C-100 Rear Surronds

How would that sound?

not to goad you one way or another, but i think it'd sound fine. the c-200s would be some big surrounds though, but you'd probably appreiciate their extra bass in the rear channels...

2 subs is definitely enough now, so i'll be adding one more than what i currently have...i don't think i'll be starved for additional bass... down the road this summer i may be upgrading the a2-300 too...stay tuned...
I thought you had to use both an LFE input for the subs and speaker wire for the passive drivers??????

You may want to talk with BD about that...

that would sound excellent.....

for the price of the towers, even if you split the shipping, at less then $400 you would have speakers that are worth about $800-900 and compete against paradigm, psb, MA and B&W... you would have an excellent setup..

according to the deftech website, the supertowers have a built in crossover for the subs. so if you hook them up via speaker wire and set them to "large", they'll get .1 lfe signal which will be sent to the sub via the speaker's internal crossover...at least that's how i understand it...

hmmm... im not sure, when i talked to bd about it I know he was using them set to small and crossed over at like 40 hz or so, and said the bass from the towers was good at that point and the subs were better at the rest.

you should have a long dialog with him.... hes awesome, I know he will help you get it perfect.

yeah, i've asked him some deftech questions over in the deftech thread. unfortunately my yamaha has a universal crossover so crossing everything over at 40hz may have detrimental effects to my c-100s and whatever center i end up with.

i have decided for sure to keep my c-100s. they're great as surrounds, and if i ever replace them with deftech surrounds, then they'll probably go into the bedroom or something, just great speakers...

I went back to my local Energy dealer and listened to the RC-10s side by side with the CF-70s. I would listen to a song back to back and switch which speaker I was listening to. First, I was listening to through the Marantz reference series SACD/CD player and integrated amp.

I found the CF-70 played louder, but it's also more sensitive than the RC-10, so I turned the volume up just a bit when listening to the RCs. As Callas can testify to, the CF-70 is a great speaker. I listened to it both with and without a sub and I think it has plenty of bass on its own, at least for music.

While I was impressed with the CF-70s, I thought the RC-10 was a better speaker (when paired with a sub). I thought it was slightly more revealing. I was listening to 30 Seconds to Mars and one of the tracks had a little static in the mix that I probably wouldn't have noticed was there listening to the 70s if I didn't know to look for it thanks to the RC-10s. They throw a wide soundstage with excellent imaging and sound like a much bigger speaker.

All in all I was very impressed with the RC-10s and might just end up getting them.

Justin

awesome....

I knew you would convert....

I need to hear some RC series speakers.... Ive always liked the RC-50s

I really liked the CF-70s I thought on their own they had good bass too. They are sensitive and slightly more forward then my C-300s, I thought they had good detail and transients between highs, mids and lower bass... The CF-70s throw a very wide sound stage, what did you think of the towers overall performance?

Have you heard Paradigms or any other similar priced speaker to the CF-70s

PS, I like your taste in music too...

Now I'm really looking forward to getting my RC-10's in. Unfortunately there is something wrong at Vanns. Their computer is down or something so it's holding up processing orders. She didn't know how long it was going to be. I will be waiting patiently.

Overall I really liked the CF-70s and had I not had the opportunity to put it side by side with the RC-10, I wouldn't have felt I was missing anything. I was typically listening anywhere from -35 to -30 and while I turned it up occasionally, I felt this was plenty. They played loud, but clear at the same time. I didn't hear any distortion.

I've listened to Paradigm before though the last time I heard them was last year so I don't remember much about them other than they were a bit too bright for my tastes. I'm heading out of town on Saturday and hoping to stop by a dealer about 70 miles away that I believe has the C 80 line from Jamo. I'm also hoping to get to a dealer that carries B&W and Wilson Audio. I could get to a Paradigm dealer next week though.

That's a bummer that their computer issues are delaying your shipment, but I think you'll really enjoy the RC-10s when you finally get them.

Ive hear paradigm a few times, I like them, yes a little to bright with the wrong components, a nice warm receiver helps them. My dad has B&W, they are nice, but forward like Paradigm and Monitor Audio also.

Have not heard Wilson, But I hear they aren't anything special. At least not when compared to higher end speaker competition.

Focals 716V and Revels F12s are what I want to hear.... they are similar priced about $1100-1300, and I hear good things about them....

Around here you get one of 4 speakers at a dealer. Paradigm, PSB, Monitor Audio and Energy.... all the dealers that have one of these speakers will say, oh you have Energy, that just like XYZ........

when I hear people talk about Paradigm and Energy Side by Side, I hear how Energy has a wider and deeper soundstage and that the audio is out in front of speakers, not coming from them.... if you get my meaning.

I just did a quick search and found that I have a Revel/Focal dealer about 15 minutes from me, so I'll try to head over there Friday before heading out of town Saturday.

Both the 716V and the F12 are floorstanding speakers, I thought you were looking into bookshelf speakers only?

I'm going to try and listen to a bunch of different speakers over the next 2 weeks and make a purchase before coming back home. If I end up with bookshelves I might pick up stands from Audio Advisor in person before coming home as they are based in Grand Rapids (where I'm from).

No. No. If I went with Dynaudios I would have to buy Bookshelfs.... that would be the most I could afford from them

Otherwise I am into whatever will give me the best bang, and that I just love.

Gotcha. A pair of Dyns popped up on Craigslist recently. Good price, but unfortunately they are active monitors from their pro line.

I've been doing a little reading on the Focals, they seem to be very good speakers and they look great too. Maybe I'll have time to get a listen tomorrow, but I highly doubt I'll have time.
