As it happens, this disc cost as much as a standard CD, but pro-logic II can only immerse immerse me in the music so far, I was impressed with the difference the 5.1 version made. My general listening includes the prodigy and chemical brothers at high volume, so chances are my hearing is severely damaged and DSD quality wouldn't be detected anyway.
Even with electronica, DSD can bring more to the recording than CD or lossy DTS/DD. But it all depends on the master and what's recorded and mixed there.

As far as your damaged hearing goes, you might wanna change your habit a bit and see a doctor about that. I can't imagine being deaf through habit is much fun.

Saying that my bro has a Denon HDMI amp so I'm going to take my optical cable over at the weekend and do a comparision. (In a similar way that despite having ordered a HDMI cable with my PS3 on release day, I just had to connect it up by composite anyway... just for shits and giggles)
Hopefully your brother has a Denon that accepts HDMI multichannel sound. Then your comparison will work. If you don't have SACDs, BDs with PCM/TrueHD will work against Dolby Digital.

Buckshot, what Galley said. Save some money and cancel your order. Then order the entire SACD box set.

I was watching the rat movie Tuesday and it came out through my toslink cable as a DD 5.1 soundtrack. Thursaday night after I had updated to 2.0 I watched the movie again and it came out as a 6.1 soundtrack and I believe it was DTS. I was surprised at the time but had to be away from home till today and plan to try some different movies to see what I get.

OK it was a DD 6.1 track according to my DENON display and I get the same from Cars. I tried Sahara that had a disapointing DD 5.1 mix when we first watched and it was much better but stll only 5.1. I will try more titles this PM.

I have four Elton John SACD's so far and I'm blown away by all of them, but especially Madman Across the Water and Honky Chateau.

Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion" in 5.1 from Toys in the Attic SACD is fantastic as well.

Well, by CD I meant Compact Disc, not Digital Versatile Disc. I hadn't really considered DVD audio, besides the internet such disc are very rare in the UK. (Seems we're last to get everything and usually pay the most for it when we do)

Probably, then again, some people like paintballing. Not me. I'm a bit of a ***** I guess. Anyways my hearing shouldn't be too bad, I'm only 24.

All I know is he paid of £1000 for it and short of cooking him breakfast in bed, if does everything.

Hopefully one day I'll upgrade myself. I'm not really an audiophile as it were, and I've only just worked my way into the 5.1 world with a budget AVR. As you can see from my signature, my equipment and collection, currently leaves something to be desired. One day though. Its a good work around for now, I need to upgrade my speakers before I do anything else. I'm using two from a Sony stereo (which sound awesome) and two off an old Aiwa stereo which sound really pants (UK pants (= US underpants)... bit like US fanny = butt, UK fanny = Holy Grail).

What was I on about again?

Thanks for the information on the conversion... my missus won't appreciate it though, because you've set me off wanting again. Don't complain if she comes after you!

I just wish they would allow for you to be able to listen to a SACD and surf the web at the same time. That's what stops me from enjoying it as much.

I only have DSOM, Thriller, Diana Krall: The Girl in the Other Room, and Monty Alexander: Stir It Up (The Music of Bob Marley). I bought the last one by accident. I thought it was Bob Marley.

arnie,

You were exactly right. I put in the SACD and choose the 5.1 channel mix and the PS3 converted it to Dolby Digital and it sounds really good.

(Don't have a good way to compare A/B with my other player.)

I'm definitely happy! If my SACD player dies now it's less of a problem. And my PS3 takes another step to being the only source I need for everything. It's like the swiss army knife of Home Theater!

Me too, just picked up Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet" which is 24/96 5.1 DVD-Audio.

I'm also looking to order the Doors new box set as it has all albums remastered into DVD-Audio 5.1 24/96.
