Default Red Band Trailer

Quote:
The red-band trailer for the upcoming Roman bloodbath Centurion has hit the net. Directed by Neil Marshall (Doomsday), Centurion stars Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) as a Roman corporal who must lead a small platoon of soldiers to rescue their general and get out of enemy territory.

click the image to check out the red-band trailer. Centurion will be available for download on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Amazon, and Vudu on July 23rd. It hits theaters on August 27th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Centurion:

Quote:
Based on the legend of the Ninth Legion, an army of 3000 unstoppable Roman warriors who vanished without trace, Centurion is the tale of their vicious conflict with a murderous adversary, the Picts. Quintus Dias (Michael Fassbender), a Roman corporal, is taken hostage by the Pict King, Gorlacon and the Ninth are charged with bringing him home and ending Pict domination of Britain. Led by General Virilus (Dominic West) and guided by a Pict prisoner and warrior woman named Etain (Olga Kurylenko), the army marches towards enemy territory and finds itself in the midst of a perilous battle with a mysterious foe.

New artwork and international trailer. Really really looking forward to this as it seems to be going back to the style of Dog Soldiers and Descent.

This is playing in Toronto next week for the After Dark Festival. Was thinking of going to see it, but figured this would get a wide release so no need to go to an event to check it out.

The article says it is only getting a limited release in the US so I would assume it might be the same in Canada. If this film comes local to me, I will see it, even though the last time I went to the cinema was around 4 years ago as I have loved this directors films (including Doomsday).

Runtime from imdb 97 min., Finland: 130 min.

That's quite a difference.

I just rented it on Amazon. Awesome flick! I consider it a mini-epic, as it's not filled with 200-man battle scenes but I think it works better this way.

There's some cgi blood, but the overall dose of violence makes up for it. And there is quite a bit of it! There are some classic death scenes like
[Show spoiler]guy gets shot with an arrow, then pulls it out and rams it into a woman's eye
.

Usually Roman-era films have mostly cringe-worthy dialogue. Sure, this has a few parts, but it's not filled with it. This is a very fast-paced movie (it literally starts running from the opening scene), but it lets up at just the right times. This is definitely one of the more enjoyable films of this genre. Too bad this won't get a wide release.

Michael Fassbender is great. Olga Kurylenko (girl from Quantum Of Solace) is a silent bada** just like Mads Mikkelsen character was in Valhalla Rising.

5/5 Stars - someone insert a poll in.

Good to know, I was really looking forward to this. Neil Marshall usually does not disappoint when it comes to action. It sucks this is not getting a wide release, I missed out on Valhalla Rising for the same reason.

According to wiki (so not sure how accurate it is) the budget was $15 million. Some of the set pieces early on show the budget limitations, but aside from that small nitpick, it does not have a 'cheap movie feel' at all.

The gore is more akin to Braveheart rather than Gladiator, meaning there's more than one decapitation and one limb hacked-off. Yet how the scenes are shot is more reminiscent of the Gladiator-style, that frantic, almost strobe affect.....if that makes sense.

15 mil was the budget. It shows with the set pieces being small scale of large battles (showing very few men when it is supposed to be mighty armies). Lots of blood though with limbs flying left and right.

This is a great film and well worth watching if you like sword and sandle type pictures. Even if you do not like those type of films it is worth it for the action alone. Great story.

My only gripe which is not really one is that the actors do speak with heavy British accents (no one tries to put on a accent) so at least every one sounds the same.

Based on a quick-look on your BD collection,I think you'll enjoy it.I saw it a few weeks in the cinema and was underwelmed, but others have stated that they liked it and it is well-made technically and actors are competent.

I watched it last night, it was totally awesome for about 3/4 of the way then it went downhill fast....after they meet the blonde chick it was horrible. after that unnecessary lull the violence seemed gratuitous when it started back up again, it killed the pace.

it was like they weren't sure how to end it and just having the soldiers return home would have been too anti-climactic for them(in reality it would have been perfect) and they were like "we need something! add a love interest! re write!"

up to that point it was pretty cool though, gritty. violent as ****

The problem comes from the fact that the story is based on an actual historical mistery. That of the Legio IX Hispana. No one knows what really happened to them so this is theory this movie presented. And a "we finally made it home" ending was highly unlikely. However, they could have ended it when the archer fired. In fact, I expected his fellow archers to fire as well. I would have been fine with that ending. Instead, the movie feels like it ended twice.

I actually thought the film got better after the first big battle which was pretty poor. Also, the night ambush started with promise (with those big fireballs) but then became rather boring despite all the bloodshed. My only other gripe was that Dominic West was underused.

It's nowhere near as good as The Descent but is leagues better than the horrid Doomsday.
