Hi
I just bought a runco used projector from the internet . I was wondering how hard is it to setup . I am going to mount it about 13 feet away , and was wondering what size screen can I use . I may go with a 82 in screen or a 72 in screen , not for sure what size I will use . I don't want it to big but big enough for viewing my movies . I may project the image right on the wall for now . But if I do that , I will need to paint a fake screen on the present wall .Im going to look around for a good screen to use . But I am more interested in what size will the picture look like at 13 feet . I just want to no that or anything you can help me with . |

I checked the model number for it and there no throw ratio guides provided for that projector.
Since this is an XGA (1024x768 at 4:3) and a low contrast ratio (800:1), I am going to assume you got it at a very cheap price. I'll also assume it has a relatively long throw. At 13 feet from the screen, unless if it's a long throw projector, you should be able to produce a large screen with it. Typical DLP projectors with a relatively long throw, you could go pretty big with it (above 100 inches in 4:3 or even about 95 inches in 16:9) and you the telephoto (farthest zoom) of the projector would get you about 80 inches in 16:9 (87 in 4:3). Older generation projectors for home theater tend to not be so bright, but I'd recommend going for an even bigger screen (such as 90 or even 100 inches will look fine actually) unless light control is a serious problem. I hope this will not hurt your feelings, but you could have even got a relatively cheap projector that is even possibly a better performer than the outdated runco you purchased. Many are brighter even at their "best" mode, some offer closer zooms for bigger screens and even some have better color decoders and higher resolutions. You might have been interested in the Runco for some sophisticated video processing features for calibration or by Brand name. I highly recommend looking around for a high definition projector from such websites like projectorpeople.com http://www.projectorpeople.com/ They also offer zoom lens guides for each projector. |

I just hook up my projector and it looks fine to me . I dont know what the other guy was talking about , but I think its got a fine picture to me . For me that projector is fine enough for me . I paid a very low price for it from ebay and am happy with it . I played a blu-ray in 720p and couldn't see the difference from 1080p off my sony Dlp Television . I think the picture is very good and being bigger than what I had before , its a step up . The bigger size for the picture make the movies come to life , its like being at the the show . I could use a screen for it , but I am going to hold off for now . I would like to buy a stewart film screen or draper or a da-light screen . I see that the stewart screens can go for some money .
