Default Blu-ray stock?

This is Hakim Wray from Brooklyn, New York. I have one question to pose the group. Is Blueray being traded on the market, and if not when will Blueray be available for public trading in the United States?

Blu-ray Disc is a product/technology, just like DVDs. I don't think you can buy stock for DVD (correct me if I'm wrong), just for the different companies that produce DVD products.

Sony is the main company behind Blu-ray.

"if so this this would be a very wise investment!!"

Sony is a large company so even though Blu-ray will be successful, it may not effect the overall earnings of Sony that much.

Exactly, most companies involved in Blu-ray have lots of other businesses and products, so there's a lot of other factors to consider before investing in them. Perhaps investing in a company that produces blue-laser diodes like Nichia would be the way to go?

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not sure if Nichia can be invested in at all.

A note of caution. Investing in the stock exchange is a risky business. Sony's performance over the last few years has been very dissapointing. Infact it would seem that only it's console division is holding the company up. I would want to research Sony's shares performance before investing any substantial amounts of money. Also there will be huge costs involved when establishing a new format. Plus buying up film studios etc....investing in Sony for short term gains probably won't work. Though as a long term investment perhaps.

There isn't a single company. Sony would be the biggest, but all of the companies involved are Big Growth companies. It would be amusing to see an ETF started that tracked the top X companies in the Blu-Ray arena.

Sony
JVC
EA
Disney
Dell
HP
Vivendi
etc

Market Analysis
http://www.dvd-recordable.org/Review...t-id-136.phtml

look at their Price/Earnings relation:
11,23(2004) 12,12(2005e) 10,70(2006e)
In a few days they will report their true earnings of 2005 which could be better than expected.

Note: i own Singulus shares ;-)
PS.: They could also profit from MRAM.

Default Blu-Ray on the stock market yet?

Ok, so I'm not so stock market savvy, but I attended a focus group yesterday and learned about Blu-Ray and HD-DVD and have to say it was so, so intriguing that I just wanted to learn more! So my question is, Is there any way to invest in the Blu-Ray market?

Thanks!
Jessica

Default Stock in Blu-ray

I know this has been asked previously but it was some time ago. Does anyone know what the current situation of blu-ray going public is? I know that many companies have bought into the idea and technology, but is blu-ray acctually going to drop stock on the market? I figure this is going to be the next iPod. A sleeper that I want to get in on.

this question is incredibly intesting for 2 reasons:
1. Sony is a private company that has no stock and is pioneering this venture
2. I believe many other companies involve do have stock

probably you will have to invest seperately in each company, find out which one has the most at stake, besides Sony, and invest there.

if anyone knows more please post

There seems to be about half a dozen first time posters who just like to post and not read a darn thing.

THERE IS NO STOCK THAT WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM BLU-RAY! - STOP ASKING!

Unless something dramatic happens, in which case there will likely be a specific post about this. But, like DVD, the group that is founding Blu-Ray is made up of major players in A/V/PC. Sony, Panasonic, Apple, Dell, Disney, etc. If you want Panasonic stock, then you buy Panasonic stock... and realize that Panasonic sells 10,000 non-Blu-Ray products (at least).

Stop asking about Blu-Ray like it is a company - it is a technology and the individual members of the Blu-Ray group worked together to come up with the standards for which they will all be making a profit from. Sony most of all.

But, this is hardly Sony's only product.

Actually before the rant above your reply was even posted I took the liberty of merging all of the threads from newbies asking about BD stock. It's pretty clear we'll get more people inquiring about this so I'll try to keep them all together in this thread.

Just out of curiosity, how much did you buy the shares for (Singulus) and what price are they at at the moment?
