It's funny you should ask this. I was at a charity over the weekend in San Diego, and there were a lot of volunteers in the high school/college age range. I have the Close Encounters "5 note" theme as a ring tone for my phone. Not a single person in the high school/college demographic knew what it was whenever my phone rang. In fact they always looked around in wonder, and I remember one of them asking out loud "what's with that trumpet?"

Anyway, as for me, I was 7 when Close Encounters came out, but I didn't see it until my teens in the mid 80's when we got got our first VCR, the same goes for 2001. I may not be quite the younger age group you're looking for, but I loved both of those films and will get them in blu. But as for other classics or what I think was excellent film making before my generation, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, and I hate to admit - The Sound of Music - are at the top of my list.
