Agreed. Studios really need to start pulling their fingers out with regard to catalogue titles.

I'd rather see fewer properly transferred titles than a lot of bad ones and if they're not going to put forth the effort I'd rather they didn't bother at all

I don't own Predator on any medium, but when I eventually buy it, it'll be the Predator 1 & 2 Blu-ray Double Pack. I'll be avoiding the Ultimate Edition like the plague.

And that's why sites like Blu-ray.com are more important today than ever. It used to be that these sites would just announce a BR release, and everyone would "oooh" and "aaah" that "XXX" is now on BR. But nowadays, you need to do your homework to decide if you'll support a lot of the studio's shovelshit they are putting out to appease the video game heads, i.e. "if the BR don't look like the bestest videogame out there then it's shit".

It's not all that bad. The problem is that of late we've had a few very poor transfers of catalogue titles.

There has been sterling work done by some but Universal have dropped the ball on some big titles and now 20th Century Fox have shot one out of the turd cannon. I just hope it doesn't affect the likes of Alien.

Although I want my Blu-ray releases to all be 5/5 for PQ. All of the Blu-rays in my collection look far superior to their DVD counterpart. Saying that upconverting any DVD release makes the movie look comparable to the Blu-ray version is ridiculous, in my opinion. All of my Blu-rays look way better than the DVD version, bad transfer or not. Upconverting a DVD is just not even close to a Blu-ray, no matter how bad the Blu-ray transfer is. There may be one or two Blu-ray releases out there that are so horrible, that it's close. But, that's about it.

Anyone who thinks Blu-Ray doesn't look much better than DVD either needs a better TV or their eyes checked.

I just had a despatch email from zavvi.com for Predator ultimate hunter edition. Should have it for mon or tue. I will post pictures, mine is the UK release, I'm assuming it will be the same disc as the US ??? I have the original blu-ray release of this film. I wonder if they have remastered the Audio as well.

The discs worldwide will be the same. The audio is the same as the first release.

Oh ok, so now it's not just the one shot, but the one scene.

I don't own Predator on blu-ray yet and just skimming through the pages of this thread it seems to me that the new Hunter Edition is getting bashed. Should I pick this one up or not?

I don't see anything wrong with that close up Carl Weather shot. I see fine, small, natural tight film grain in the background of the image. Yes, the image is a bit hazy and soft but clearly from how it was filmed.

I'm not seeing increased detail in that second screenshot so much as much increased brightness, which is obviously going to reveal more.

Seriously? I Mean, seriously?

His moustache looks like it's a blurred charcoal effect from Photoshop!

If you think this looks good then you need...

It's both. IMO.

They did a little more than just adjust the lighting.
