um, these were never IN print, to my knowledge

if it makes you feel any better, one of the insiders over in that forum said that a new HD transfer of Apocalypse Now was made for an upcoming blu-ray release.

I have heard that Paramount does not feel that catalog titles sell enough these days to keep them on the market for DVD. In addition they have scaled back plans to release them on Blu ray, and have no plans to release most of the classic titles on the format. It would explain the recent waves of titles licensed out to Lionsgate. Not that we may never see anything from Paramount on Blu ray, but as I understand they are not making catalog titles priority. My guess is that Criterion could end up nabbing some for future DVD and first time Blu ray, and Lionsgate will continue.

Other than Warner, it seems like all the studios have been holding back on the catalog titles because sales are down on them. My guess is that the public is tired of rebuying the same film over again. The prices are way too high. At $20 - $40 depending on the title it gets expensive to re-collect unless you search the $10. Walmart, Fry's and Best Buy sales. The studios need to sell them at the $10. - $15. range and no higher unless it is an elaborate Special Edition.

For DVD; there is a small indie company called Olive Entertainment who is about to release a bunch of vintage Paramount films never released before.

Criterion has already released Paramount's Days of Heaven on Blu ray. So anything is possible. Personally I am hoping Criterion picks up Nashville, Hud, The Miracle of Morgan's Creek and Seconds for Blu ray release.

To be honest I can't see Paramount licensing any of their more popular films to anyone.

However, I can see the more obscure catalogue titles being licensed out, which would be equally as good.

Speaking of Paramount, are they done with the Sapphire Series?

They licensed Benjamin Button to Criterion, and that was a popular new title.

I understand that Lionsgate has the DVD / Blu ray rights now to certain Coppola Zoetrope films including Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, The Virgin Suicides.

In fact Lionsgate have announced The Conversation for release on August 17th - but only on DVD. OK so this is slightly off topic as it's not a Blu-ray release, but does anyone know whether this will be a newly remastered version or will it just be a repackaging of the original Paramount DVD?

I noticed something weird going on with Paramount.

The two Martin & Lewis sets are out of print, as well as the Jerry Lewis box. They never DID get around to issuing all of those films, and now the ones they DID issue are gone! Good going, guys.

Anyone have a link to list of OOP Paramounts, by the way?

Not OOP, but repackaged, I have noticed that at least 2 titles have new artwork, they are:

The Manchurian Candidate
We Were Soldiers

Also, two older Paramount blu titles in my collection: "World Trade Center" and "U2 Rattle and Hum" have a silver band that say's "Paramount High Definition" on them.

Stupid Paramount where their paramount labels on barebone dvd releases don't even match. I managed to buy the last copy of Barbarella (oop) off futureshop.ca's website and when I put it next to my other paramount dvd title, Flight Of The Intruder, the spine artwork positioning doesn't match at all.

According to this site, you can search to find out which Paramount Blu-rays have been discontinued.
