I'll buy it at some point for $9.99 or less just to compare it to the version I own, but all indications are that this is a DNR fiasco. C.B. is never overly critical and if he says the DNR usage was extreme, I believe him.

Please, direct me to where digital manipulation is obviously at play in this screenshot. That specific screenshot. Not the one waxy shot of Arnold or Carl that everyone keeps falling back on.

Looked fine on the original too. It's not like the whole thing was some ridiculous grainfest.

Got that right!

I just added the original to my wish list while removing this wreck.

However if this same thing happens to the 'ALIEN' BDs...

I actually found my left over snow white bluray cover from the steelbook best buy preorder. So I put both the DVD and extra disc plus the old bluray. The artwork fits pretty good in the 3 disc case, a bit small but nothing that really stands out.

Exactly as I expected, some of the people who were alright with removing the grain and texture from the film were suddenly calling for a recall because a few lines of dialog were missing. Altering the film is altering the film, whether it's removing the grain, eliminating a line of dialog or a music cue, cutting a scene altogether or cropping the edges to pan and scan. You're still removing stuff that is part of the movie. Now to all the people that think it's great that they've removed the grain, if what I originally said WAS true, how would you respond to someone who came in here and posted, "I don't care about the missing Blaine scene. It just distracted from the action and you're all snobs and elitists who don't understand Predator's just a movie. I like it with the scene missing." Well guess what? You're that person.
That's a very weak analogy, it's like saying punching someone is the same as killing someone.

Not to go to much off topic, but I get why some people don't like it and can see why some people equate it to buying a bag of chips opening it up and seeing it half/ more then halfway empty, some people just think if they have a 50'' tv they should get 50'' of picture. And I'm sure allot of those same people want DNRed movies and could give two S***s about how some 80s director intended something to look lol, and I'm sympathetic to that as-well just because its different doesn't mean its wrong .

It's a shame to hear about the transfer. I think I'll stick with the old bluray.

I would have at least gave it a 3. It's no worse than the original release.

Just mediocre in a different direction.

That logic fail doesn't even make sense. So your point is lost. Someone needs a hobby.

Maybe you can yell fire in a crowded theater to educate people on fire safety.

But you can't tell by looking at it. You can't tell anything in that image has been manipulated. We only know it's been manipulated because Predator is known to be a grainy-ass film, and because they overdid the DNR on other shots. If the entire disc looked like that, there'd be very few if any complaints.

If there's little grain to remove, not much removal needs to be done.

I might be in the minority here but this release doesn't sound bad at all. Unless Im walking through a sandstorm the real world does not have grain around me. A transfer scrubbed of grain isn't a problem for me at all. This release is a must buy for me.
