This poll is about PQ, not extras.

It doesn't. The better encode has given it more detail, in many screenshots, despite the DNR. Obviously without the DNR, it'd have been be vastly superior.

Just Kidding, but still... I have seen far more credible reviews on this site than at places like dvdtown (some of the worst scrub apologists around) and some Predator fanboy site.

So now DNR is transparent. Keep contradicting yourself.

Huh? You're not understanding me correctly. Yes, DNR has eliminated details, but the better encode has brought other additional details forward. Think of it like this: the new transfer was a 100% improvement over the original, and then they applied the DNR and knocked it down to a 50% improvement.

I outlined in that post the ways in which I felt the new screenshots are superior. Please, direct me to what details are less pronounced — or completely absent — in the new screenshots that you can see in the originals. I'm fear I'm having a hard time seeing what you're seeing.

Everything. Texture of the skin, leaves, clothing. If you still have difficulty, I suggest downloading the image and "color correcting" it as your computer monitor won't have the same contrast that your television does.

What may be difficult to see on a computer monitor, can be very evident when viewed on your television screen from the disc.

Time to throw in the towel, buddy. We're all entitled to our opinions, but after a while, its just chest thumping. Good for you that you like DNR, but stop trying to shove this 'detail' placebo down. If halos mean detail to you... then that helicopter screenshot is awesome (sarcasm).

Great to see these non-fanboyish reviews here. Good review, i like how Casey outlined in what ways the new version was actually improved, but how all that is moot in light of the added layer of wax.

Who said I like DNR? And there are no apparent halos from edge enhancement in these screenshots. These are halos.

If you are unable to see haloing around the choppah' in your precious screenshot, then all of your previous posts actually make sense (not a good thing).

Denial.
What improvement? He gave it a 2 out of five and threw in a gimmie about solid black levels. Whoop-de-do!

The "added layer of wax" you mention took up the bulk of his video review and was obviously the reason he scored it a full point lower than the score received for the 2008 version.

From the review:

Quote:
The good news—if you want to call it that—is that black levels are solid, compression artifacts are absent this time around, and edge enhancement is nowhere near as prevalent or overzealous as it is in other DNR'ed-to-oblivion titles. None of this really matters, though, when you're watching an image that looks like it's been rubbed down with Vaseline.

A 2/5 for picture quality is an improvement?

By all means, i agree with review and the rating. I've seen the new disc and it's just as he describes it. I just wanted to give credit to the reviewer for trying to also find something positive about this totally botched abomination.

carry on

Looks like I'll keep my original copy, not that it was stellar, but I just don't like how blurry this new one looks. I'm terrified for the Aliens box set now. If Fox bows to the masses, those movies will all be a smudge-fest too.

They should rename the title of this Blu to Predator: House of Wax Edition.
