Default Life Vs Planet Earth

I searched the forum and couldn't find anything about this. Please delete this or point me in the right direction if it has already been discussed.

What is the difference (if any) between these 2 series?

I know Discovery did one, and BBC did the other. But did the BBC simply re-master the film that Dicsovery did?

They are two different series and as I understand they were both done by BBC and Discovery. Correct me if I'm wrong on the second half of that statement.

Both are made by the BBC National History Unit (NHU). Both aired on The Discovery Channel in the USA.

Each contains different subjects, animals, plants, locations, water bodies, etc.

Buy both!!!!!!!!

No but parts of Planet Earth are about life. And parts of Life are about planet Earth. Some parts of Planet Earth are even about death. But no parts of Life are about planet Mars.

The easiest way to describe the differences, is that Planet Earth has more of a focus on different types of ecosystems (mountains, polar regions etc), while Life tends to focus more on the variety of animal species ( mammals, reptiles, etc). Both are incredible and must owns..

Reading that post just made my morning! Seems like a lot of people on this thread needed that clarification.

It is not horrible, it is just a different narrator. I would tend to agree, a majority of people prefer David Attenborough (I do) but the Oprah version is not 'horrible.'

you're wrong adrock, it's terrible. weaver and oprah versions of Life&PE are travesties & should be burned.

attenborough is the only way to fly.

PE is more about landscape and Life is more about creatures.

The Attenborough set has better encoding as well, 1080p (on all episodes but 1) as opposed to the Oprah set, which inexplicably is 1080i.

There is a Life/Planet Earth 2-pack btw. So 'Planet Earth does come with Life.'

Agreed. Oprah's version is not incredible but it's not horrible either. It's just a bit unfair for her going head to head with David Attenborough, she never had a chance

1080i vs 1080p as well.

discoverystore.com did a Planet Earth/Life pack for $50.. if i didn't already have Planet Earth i'd have seriously considered it.

I actually liked Sigourney Weaver's narration, but Oprah's was distracting.. I don't see why they have to change them really, but whatever. I'd prefer the David Attenborough versions I guess, but I don't like the BBC cover (for Life or Planet Earth) so I'd get the Discovery one, the focus is on the content not the narration anyway
