One thing everyone in this thread can agree on, we all love to argue.

and yes I fully anticipate someone arguing with me over this.

Because it looks like crap, and is a step backward for blu-ray and the quality blu-ray has to offer. I'm sorry if you like bad transfers and blu-rays that look smeary and fake looking, but I prefer my films to look like film.

So what? Does that offend you for some reason? I'm simply referring to the fact that the screenshot looks like a doctored joke.

Rather than surfing the thread looking for enemies (which you seem to be doing a lot), why don't you just sit back and enjoy yourself chief? Laugh a lil!

How much was the two pack?

Was it's Predator Ultimate edition and Predator 2?

Or the 2008 release of Predator and Predator 2?

Agreed.... I'm perfectly happy with my copy, but I may just go get the new one, like you, after seeing what a heated debate it's causing. Try it out on my new 60 inch Sharp Aquos (amazing non-LED LCD, by the way).

Edit:

It's this one, right?

Hilarious.

All this nose thumbing over a 20-year-old monster movie.

Thanks for the details. I might pull the trigger on that because I don't have the 2nd on Blu and am considering buying the new version (double dip for me) because of the movie cash.

No, its not that we are in love with film grain, its that (and this is an old point by now) we want a faithful reproduction of the movie we PAID to see in the theaters.

Given that the technology can pretty much effortlessly do that, why is it so much to expect? If Predator (or any other movie, for that matter) was originally released to look like the Ultimate Hunter edition then there would be no problem with the new transfer. But it wasn't, so why should we just lie down and take it without speaking our minds? Isn't that what internet forums are for in the first place?

And I keep seeing people shrugging it off and encouraging the people to just not buy it if they don't like it. If you don't think the 2008 disc will go out of print, you're nuts. No way is Fox going to continue to have two versions available down the line. Why would they? To confuse customers even more?

That's all well and fine, but anyone who says they remember how it looked in theaters is wrong.

DNR/EE/Digital Post Processing in general is the devil, but with this particular movie, all it did was give you a choice of shitty looking transfers. This one, however, will at least fool people into thinking it looks more "HD-i-er"

If you say so, but I am one of the few who HAS seen it projected in theaters several times over the last decade and I can say with no trepidation that the 2008 bd is extraordinarily faithful to the prints I've seen.

But don't just take my word for it, do some research in the threads and you will see that I am not the only one making this claim. All of us agree that the 2008 transfer is not offensive, or "shitty" as you described it.

Funny how nobody wants to believe the people who have actually seen it on 35mm recently, but whatever...

I saw Iron Man 2 not two months ago, and wouldn't be able to tell you if the inevitable disc is "faithful" to how it was projected in theaters. It really is a silly argument.

BUT, my main point still stands. This is a B-level movie, which has just given all these people an excuse to argue and misrepresent facts for pages upon pages. Which I find hilarious.

Who is misrepresenting and what facts are they butchering?

Just because you don't notice the same things with movies (your Iron Man 2 statement) does not mean that other people don't. Many people who give a rip about things like photography and art do notice image quality, so its not really your place to call the argument silly.

Weather or not you think Predator is a B-grade picture is irrelevant. It has stood the test of time (23 years is pretty impressive by today's standards) and is a meaningful, nostalgic title to many of us here.
