A Christmas Tale (blu) (Criterion)
PQ: 4.5/5 AQ: 4.5/5 Film: 2 1/2 (out of 4) Rottentomatoes: 86% Ebert: 3 1/2 (yet read his review and you'll wonder why he gave the film a good rating) A decent film, but nothing more. There's been much debate about whether this film or Summer Hours is better, but having seen both within the span of 5 days I can say that Summer Hours is a far better film. This is a film that really could have been great but tries too hard to be profound. In the end, it says very little and is not strong thematically, especially when compared to Summer Hours. There are many beautifully composed shots and Almaric is fantastic here, stealing every scene. However, the direction is very uneven and there are numerous instances in which the direction is downright odd, such as the use of periscope framing. It's apparent that the director tried to be edgy with some shots, but he succeeded in nothing more than being a distraction. The film is also much too long for its own good. I think this film warrants a second look, because I admit that there might be more there than what I saw. My motivation to see again, however, is not too strong. Note: by the way, I find it amusing that even the top critics who gave the film a favorable review state that it really has little depth too it, is overlong, and is borderline pretentious. These are all criticisms I had, which is reflected in my rating, yet these critics still gave the film a good review. Weird. |

Judge Dredd (upscaled DVD on my BluRay player)
I put this serious-comedic sci fi movie in the same catagory as Starship Troopers. Very well done future settings, good CGFX, nice weapons and good fun. I hope this movie gets put out on BluRay soon, even the upscaled DVD looked 'ok' and the AQ is superb. The colors, the weapons, the mechanical war bot, the treachery, the Stallone presence, the comedy relief, the inbred desert cannibals...it's all here kids. Years later looking at this film, it stands the test of time and is still a good vehicle as well as the CGFX can hold up to todays sci fi aficianados imo. The one concern is they need to clip the aspect ratio down from 2.39:1 to a perfect 16:9, as I had to use "Zoom" mode which still surprisingly looked good on my system but, BluRay would be sublime. 8/10 |

The Crazies(Netflix Rental)
Film:4/5 Really enjoyed this. Not too gory which I was very appreciative about. I love the plot of this film bc this could actually happen one. I love films like that. The pace of this film was fine with me and I enjoyed the characters also. I def recommend this to fans of zombie films and 28 days/weeks later series. |

Watched two films, on my Netflix Instant Cue. One was my choice, and one was my Girlfriend's chocie.
1. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, was my girlfriend choice. It was funny, and Johnny Depp was amazing in it. This compared to Willy Wonka with Gene Wilder, I liked the Kids better in the newer one, and also i liked the darker tones. I would give this movie a solid 3 out of 5. 2. Amelie was the next one i watched. I have seen so many people with screen shots and from this movie, so i thought I would give it a shot. I started the movie and absolutely fell in love with Amelie, her smile and those big brown eyes. This movie was amazing and makes me want to import it right now, but i don't have the money so i will have to wait. I can't wait to watch this movie again. Thanks to this movie, I just want to watch more and more foreign films now. I would give this movie a 4.5 out of 5. |

In London, the sideshow troupe of Doctor Parnassus promises to the audiences a journey to the "Imaginarium", an imaginary world commanded by the mind of Doctor Parnassus where dreams come true. In the stories that Doctor Parnassus tells to his daughter Valentina, to the midget Percy, and his assistant Anton, he claims to have more than one thousand years; however, when he felt in love for a mortal, he made a deal with the devil Mr. Nick trading his immortality per youth. As part of the bargain, he promised his son or daughter to Mr. Nick on the sixteenth birthday. Valentina now is almost in the doomed age and Doctor Parnassus bets with Mr. Nick that whoever seduces five souls in the Imaginarium will have Valentina as a prize. Meanwhile the troupe rescues Tony that was hanged on a bridge by the Russians that explains why he had been chased and he joins the group.
