I have seen in this thread many good reasons to do these films right on blu-ray ,i have seen no good reason to do it wrong. What was done to PREDATOR, gladaitor, first startrek films, patton and others is just a sin. What some people are asking for is every blu-ray look sharp ,polished ,colorful...the video game look,is just not realistic,when dealing with film and dnr is not the answer,ee is not the answer.For those folks open your minds and deal with it.

I'm sure this has been pointed out already, but film is a higher resolution than 1920 x 1080.

This is also part of the reason why there is a push for 4K DLP projectors in movie theaters... They want to present the original film as close to the original elements as close a possible.

And what effect does watching without bathroom breaks have on the quality of the image? Nothing. How does pausing a film change the overall quality of the art that was created by someone else, not you? It doesn't, but I still try to watch uninterrupted. Who says you can't leave the theater and go to the bathroom, anyway?

And yeah I do watch in darkness, and with the audio closest to what was originally presented. Next?

it is by far the preferred version. I felt like my 3 cents might help those of us who don't necessarily consider ourselves experts in video reviews. a few minutes ago I tried to watch the ultimate hunter addition for a second time because I want to like it. I made it to the helicopter drop point in the jungle. I could not stand it anymore. So then I wanted to know how much of a difference and maybe why such extreme measures were taken to change the original. They may have been most concerned with artifacts rather than grain. Right from the start you can see extreme tearing in the film if that's the correct word. Little areas of noise you know. But once the movie gets going I haven't noticed it . I now know i really missed the smoke, heat or whatever was supposed to always be in the film for the setting. Being TOTALLY removed from the hunter version is absolutely unacceptable. My review of this film was not extreme enough. I would give PQ a ZERO now. I would suggest anyone wanting this movie to buy the 2008 version before its too late. This better not be a new trend. I didn't buy Gladiator for this reason. Everyone participating in the pole I assume has both. I cant believe how many prefer the hunter version. Remember this is another Gladiator situation is all I can say. I can re watch the original.

How about the pacing of the film ? You are totally messing with the scene as the director plotted it. You are taking HIS work and messing with it to suit YOUR needs ! It is not YOUR film to pause !!!! Why do you feel someone else's art should cater to you? It's made, and that's it. Either like how it's made or not.

Yeah, because we all know that all movies , young and old, were originally theatrically presented with DTS HD Master Audio....

Ya see, these are the kin d of arguments that I have to roll my eyes on when it comes to the purists.

The ONLY way one could ever watch their favorite films as they were originallly intended would be to have the exact same set-up used in the theater at the time. Presuming that the equipment is top-of-the-line for the time period. But that can never be the case. We live in a digital age now...we don't have reel-to-reel projectors in our house, we don't have mono speaker boxes behind the screen. You can't compare the analog age to the digital age.

Trust me, if I was a purist as such and wanted to watch films today in the way I remembered them in the theater back in the day, I'd shoot myself. My local theater has always been out of date. I don't even think they have a full surround sound theater. I don't know, I haven't been in years. Movies used to be a big thing in our town...lines galor going in for the 7:00 showing during the summer weekends...not now...I haven't seen lines there in years.

Most people in our area now, drive to the next town over where they do have good theaters, and then over in the next town after that, a University town, they have an IMAX theater.
