The Mona Lisa had eye brows and lashes until a restorer painted them out (an engineer Francois Cotte did a 240 megapixel scan and analysed the results with light filters).

Apparently the Mona Lisa is the painting most first time visitors to the Louvre head for and then spend an average of less than three minutes looking at.

And here you are responding.. maybe you should get a life too? And how is my analogy silly? Why is one piece of art fine to destroy and another not? I love how I put tons of questions out there, yet no one can really answer them...

I'll keep posting and you can keep reading.

Is it some sort of chemical imbalance? Why do I not start to get filled with rage and furious anger at the mere mention of dnr? This thread has made me realize one thing..... I must hate movies. Despite owning 600 blurays... 120 hd DVDs and countless DVDs.... Some how I hate movies.I need a new hobby.... I mean I like to read comics but if I get that marvel app for the iPad I will be Altering the way comics were meant to be seen and read.I don't want to find out that I hate comics too. I am lost.
Well you were crying foul at the Ghostbusters transfer a while back and getting all butt hurt that they DIDN'T blur it to death, so pot, meet kettle. Oh, and Gremlins, too. I guess because they resembled how the films were supposed to look, and that didn't fit your perfect little world? The difference is, those transfers won't kill blu-ray like this one will.

I'm sorry that you don't value art. I'm sorry that you want everything your way. I'm sorry that life isn't fair. Do you work in the business? Well, I do, so yes I take what I do and the art of others seriously. Without it, you wouldn't have your movies and music and precious comic books. I'm sure all the creators would love to know you don't really care about their work, yet you continue to buy it and partake in it... why?

It's a surprisingly underwhelming experience. The picture is small and dark. Before viewing it, most visitors assume it to be bigger and brighter. It obviously need a good dose of digital manipulation!

I have dozens of blu-rays you silly billy! but just felt that the bad attention this new predator edition is getting is very unfair. and yes the picture quality is good enough for me considering the age of predator.

Come on guys. The Looks and Sound of a Blu-Ray Release is just as subjective as speakers.
Many people may feel a certain speaker sounds one particular way.Where only a small handful may hear them produce a completely different sound.

It doesen't make any side right or wrong. Its just a matter of personal preference.
As was already said, its just a movie. And has some age to it.So any transfer,if its cleaned up,or left dark and grainy wont please everyone.

Just enjoy the movie.Isn't that what its all about, enjoying the movie itself.

Yes, the DNR looks odd in some scenes but I'm glad the level used on Carl's mug was not used throughout. I saw the film in the theater and loved it for what it was. I didn't notice the grain back then or the film stock used but for me, many scenes do look better than the previous release. One can only do so much to 'clean up' an image to try and get it to look more like many higher def' releases. Even on BD, the previous release was not impressive in terms of PQ but when compared to the new, many prefer the first. Fair enough.

While I would agree about leaving the original look of most films, who's to say that the director wouldn't have used a different film stock today had he made the film more recently? The manipulation of the image on the Ultimate Edition... the depth of NR used is just not acceptible to film purists while others who are less concerned about preservation, like the smoother look. Either way, it's an interesting re-release and while the new BD is not my choice for PQ of the year by any stretch, I can still enjoy it for what it is.

I have to wonder what would be said if the film originally looked the way it does now and they re-released it with the grainier look. Overall, I think the NR is kinda weird but at least the original is still available for those who prefer it.

You said you thought the picture quality was amazing in another thread, so I'm curious: what type of set up are you using when you watch it? I, personally, am surprised by the number of people who aren't bothered by this transfer and knowing how you're viewing it may shed some light on that.

Same question for anybody else who likes this transfer: what are you watching it on?

Very nice my friend, I like all those movies in your collection. Get a gallery up and show us your set up. I wish the new edition of Predator came in a special box or metal tin......

I really do think the new transfer is a good job by fox and as i said before everybody was complaining about the old version and now we have a new version and loads of people still arent happy. i just like the look of the new version it looks so clean and really breaths new life into the film. it does look so detailed as does 'big trouble in little china' which i would compare this release to as its from the same era of 1980's. and BTILC was a horrendous dvd but looks awesome on blu-ray as does the new Predator edition. But of course we still have the option to go buy the Barebones edition aswell so we have no real complaints as there are two version out now and FOX is a Business and of course they want to make a cash in on the new PREDATORS movie.
