So that makes you better than him? He probably confused Wolfman with the early 90s film Wolf, which is somewhat similar.

It wasn't quite as bad as the trailer looked, but it's not a very good movie. I'd give it a 5.5, maybe 6 out of 10.

Fair enough, I won't be seeing it, but that doesn't mean ppl won't enjoy it. Of course, what does a trailer really mean when it comes down to it? There are innumerable trailers that make a film look good when in fact it's terrible, same with the reverse.

Well i guess you're right but they do share the same simliarity into the whole magician thing.

I know that it wasn't Jack Nichloson in the 1941 original, and I still don't know how you can think they are both the same, sure they both have Werewolves in, but that's pretty much where the similarities end

It's ok, we all make mistakes some times, it's just a pretty heavy on saying the original is from 1941.

We'll all try to avoid honest mistakes from now on.

I disagree. Having a magician as the main character is a similarity, sure, but that's where it ends. It would be like saying The Godfather and Goodfellas are the same because they both have gangsters as the main characters. The films could not be more different, but I do understand why they're always compared, seeing as they came out the same year and both "involve magic" (which is only true to an extent). I remember going to rent them when they first came out--the guy at the rental store said "ohhh the two magic movies, huh! Let me know which one is better!"

Exactly the reason why I don't pay much attention the them anymore. There are a few films I went into with expectations and left disappointed that I now love after second viewings later on.

Oh, I definitely agree. I do go on Apple and watch them from time to time, because I do have an appreciation for trailers. However, that doesn't mean I'll go see the film. I mean come on, my favorite film (The Fountain), had a completely misleading trailer which partly led to the reason so many ppl were confused by it!

Haha some video store guys are funny. I agree, very different films centered on a very loosely similar topic. I need to see The Illusionist again, haven't seen it since the theaters

Thats hard, i always said the Prestige was better but after viewing the Illusionist recently its hard for me to choose. The Prestige has a killer twist a the end, and so does the Illusionist, The Presitge has a great cast with awesome acting and so does is comp. So its hard to say, i guess it just feels like what mood you're in. Love or jealousy and commitment.

My wife likes the Prestige more but its too hard for me to decide between the 2

Yeah it's a shame that they're so misleading. A lot of them are done by trailer companies and they seem to follow a specific format that will appeal to the average movie goer looking to be entertained. Which for some brilliant films basically takes the brilliance out of them, whether it be a brilliant mind bender (Triangle) or a love story like The Fountain. Btw I love that movie! I haven't seen it in a long time though, I need to watch that soon

haha I meant that's what the guy said, but thanks for answering yourself! This has been discussed ad nauseum on this site, but here goes: The Prestige is a "Hollywood" movie, The Illusionist is not. Both have great acting, directing, and cinematography, although they're great in different ways. The Prestige relies on its twist, which is def somewhat of a cop out. The Illusionist isn't trying to shock people with its twist, but merely trying to conclude the story. The Prestige is one of the best films ever at examining obsession. The Illusionist makes no attempt at trying to delve into complex issues. The Prestige is a sci-fi film masquerading as a magician film. The Illusionist is a love story masquerading as a magician film. In the end, the simpler tale (the Illusionist) prevails, because its simplicity is what makes it more successful. Had the Prestige stuck with its great examination of obsession and not delved into cliche, it would have been even better.

Exactly, it's all about marketing. The Fountain trailer was done the way it was because it was guaranteed to make some ppl go "oooh a love story set during three different time periods over the course of 1000 years, how awesome!" Then there are films like Amelie and The Lives of Others, which were two of the best films of the 2000s but had poor trailers because there was really no way to convey what the film was like.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington - 4.5/5

Great movie. Fantastic performances all around, great writing, great story. Very interesting look into the Senate as well. I definitely recommend it

in light of it being 6 million degrees here today, stayed inside, melted, and watched some movies, every movie is spoiler tagged to keep this post shorter

Sunshine
[Show spoiler]i love this film. the characters, the writing, and the creepy (but not quite overly creepy) directing by Danny Boyle. i know a lot of people hate the third act, and while it definitely isn't original and i didn't at first think it fit in well with the film, after a few viewings i've learned to appreciate it more and more. one of my personal favorites in the sci-fi genre.

5/5

-----------------

Gattaca
[Show spoiler]second viewing, and something just doesn't "click" with me with this film. i liked it more the second time now that i know what to expect (no action, very human element to the story), but it still just doesn't make me feel anything. never a big fan of Ethan Hawke but he does a good job here. for whatever reason, the color pallete here makes me... drowsy? is that the word i want to use? it's just so... samesy. and the film is quiet, don't know why, but it has that effect on me.

3/5

-----------------

Tropic Thunder
[Show spoiler]the opening 20 minutes are in fact, the best part of the movie. fast, witty, entertaining, and action packed, it's hilarious. the film is way too long and there are too many slower parts as the comedy dies off here and there, but of course, RDJ steals the show. one of the best co-stars (almost a cameo really) in a film ever. and Jack Black / Ben Stiller are pretty much at their best here.

3.5/5

------------------

Speed
[Show spoiler]Keanu Reeve's best role ever. one of the best action movies around. original, fun, thrilling, exciting and numerous "holy ****!" moments abound, Speed is a classic of the action genre. really never gets old. never ashamed to throw it in and watch some great, old school 90's action / suspense on a bus.

4.5/5

--------------------

The Dark Knight
[Show spoiler]best super hero movie ever? for the time being, yes. Ledger's legendary performance as the Joker is riveting / amazing. Bale really needs to tone down the Batman voice however, it's much worse than it was in Batman Begins. great story, extremely dark and gripping and has some great chase / action sequences. much better villain this time around than the weak, scrawny Scarecrow

5/5

-----------------

Avatar
[Show spoiler]thank god this didn't win Best Picture. nothing memorable at all (besides the visuals), and an actually very boring story / film. clocking in at 155 minutes, the film has way too much filler, way too many mundane, generic characters and way too many "look what the Navi do now!" scenes that made me bored. the dragon flying scenes were amazing and felt shockingly real, but too many others fell flat. the fact that almost no action takes place until the 110 min mark was outrageous as it felt like i was watching a boring documentary about the Navi, not an action / adventure movie. not very entertaining.
