I knew this was their first line of receivers, but I wasn't sure if you had heard their pre/pro before. I've heard plenty of compliments for their amps though. I'm going to read the thread on them over at AVS and will be looking forward to any pro reviews that may come out.

The NAD I have yet to hear but Rhett and my dealer both said for Music the NAD would be killer, and very good for HT. Both agreed that an amp for the reciever would be good also, but that to start the receiver will run Totems and or Dyns as good as say a Yamaha and Emo combo, and probably with better sonics. The Dyn Excites were made with the idea that a 6 ohm receiver could power them and be perfectly fine.. well think about this, NAD is distributed by Dynaudio in Europe.... so guess what receivers they used to test the Excites out on?? Exactly...
I didn't know NAD was so closely linked with Dynaudio, I'll add them to my growing list of things to research.

So eventually I will add an amp, but I will probably start with a very good receiver and add the amp later...I think I will be in for a good 3-4 upgrade period, until I am totally finished... It could be receiver this year, speakers next, amp later....
Sounds like you've got a few exciting HT years ahead of you. And a new son on the way to boot.

Quote:
If the Marantz is a Denon, then that sucks, Marantz is known for building first from the receivers amp on up and adding features later, not deciding first on features then how to afford the amp.
I wish they had added a powerful enough DSP in the AV8003 to decode the HD codecs and apply Audyssey at the same time. That might be the only thing holding me back from getting it.

By converting to PCM you're downgrading the quality. Though I think my player can decode the DSD stream in the player and send it to the receiver via the analog outs. I'll have to double check though.

Rich, any brands you'd recommend I listen to? On my list I have: Dynaudio, Totem, Vienna Acoustics, Energy, Jamo, Dali, Focal, Monitor Audio, Paradigm, Polk, Klipsch, MartinLogan, and Def Tech.

I found a dealers in town carrying Revel, but was unable to find dealers for Dali or Amphion. I'll give Usher a call on Monday and see if there are any dealers near me. I was having trouble getting the Dali dealer locator to work though, so maybe I'll give them a call too.

I also found a dealer who carries Arcam, Anthem, Lexicon, Ayre, Bryston, and Rotel so I'll make sure to spend some time with each of those.

my wife wants new furniture and carpet... AND a TV.... I am happy with the TV, its only 3 yrs old... she says well my AV/speakers are only 2 yrs old... I have explained that there would be a bigger improvement updating the audio then the Video.

My hope is that in tax money we get enough back that I can get her Carpet and a new couch, and then I can get a new AV/TV 3-n-1 stand AND an receiver.... In this order... NAD, Anthem, Marantz or Sherwood Newcastle. Come on big money.
haha yea man. I would hold out longer, but the thing is that its going bad. Every day new white dots show up all over the screen. Pixels are dieing or something. SO we have to toss it. I already took it down, so now I moved our bedroom tv to the living room. Its a 42" Panasonic C2 720p plasma. Its not bad for a 720P. Good PQ. Calibrating it made it much better. Its just too small and we miss not having a tv in the bedroom. . Sucks because I wanted to get an amp first.

The thing I found odd about Amphion is all but one of their dealers appear to be in Illinois. I'll have to give them a call as well.

60 hz they will extend without issues rated at 50hz +/-3db, another trick is to invert polarity on one of the speakers and put speakers face to face as close a possible like 3 to 6 inches, it will do a push and pull, that accelerates the process.

you should be ok to start opening them up some... I wouldn't be scared to turn up your volume at this point... plus a little higher volume will help them to loosen up and push the driver back and forth further and open up

Rhett has some etremely fine pieces of equipment that are out of my reach right now.

I must be biased I think I will go with the Anthem MCA 30 if I can get an audition for it since it's another Canadian made product of really high quality.
I wish I could afford the P 5 but it's 5k $.

Way over budget in my case.
