The video won't be any better on Blu-Ray than it was on DVD because of how it was shot. However, the audio could be better than the DVD was.
This is a great movie to watch once, but isn't something I'd buy, because once you've seen it, it's boring.
Once you know everything that happens, it's just three people whining for a whole running time. I'll be skipping this Blu-Ray release. I only have the DVD, because I got it for 99 cents on eBay...

Why are you guys so quick to take the news as the truth? I just went to HDRoom and the entry is nowhere to be found. I don't even get any matches when doing a general search. There's also no news on it when I search google nor are there any sites taking preorders.

I highly doubt it's coming in less than two months.

And millions of people did, and isn't it like the highest grossing film considering the budget?
But that's my point, millions went to see based off of the marketing and the majority were let down when they actually saw it. Obviously people like me and you are in the minority since we are fans, but the "average joe" hates this movie cuz they were sucked in by the marketing and felt let down by the actual film.

The average complaint from the average "hater" goes something like this: "I was told this was the scariest movie ever and all I got was
[Show spoiler]90 mins of 3 kids lost in the woods and at the end of the movie some dude was in a corner.
I should have seen The Sixth Sense instead."

Like I said, I love the film, but ALL of my friends hated it, and the above statement was what I got from most of them.

Now when the Blu comes out those same people will complain about the video quality and claim that it is the "worst blu-ray ever" since 28 Days Later.

I love this movie. But this will not have that Hi-Def look to it, sadly so . It was shot with a Hi-8 Camcorder.

p.s Question to the OP (I know the release date is accurate) but where do they have this news in the HD Room? I seemed to even search for it and they have no results.

Brilliant film. Requires that you have an imagination and are able to use it appropriately.

I 2nd the comments about the typical "hater" response. It's easily one of the best horror films ever made. Truly a remarkable film -- the quality of which is lost on people who were expecting something intensely violent with a lot of quick cuts and loud booms on the soundtrack everytime we see a shadow.

The film was shot with both a video camera and also with a 16mm -- so there will be several parts that will benefit from the increased resolution. The audio will sound great in lossless -- and the space on the BD will allow for better colors/contrast/fewer compression artifacts, etc.

I'm still surprised how some people can't recognize that it's not just the resolution BD is capable of improving. The black levels alone will add to some of those intensely creepy night scenes where the audio is coming from the video camera but we're seeing the images through the 16mm camera. That B&W photography is going to look a lot better.

Count me in for a Day 1 purchase.

How am I being cheap?
I've seen the movie around 4 or 5 times because I have a few friends who haven't seen it so I rewatched it with them. Otherwise, it's sat on my shelf and collected dust. It's scary in a theater, though.
Not a lot of replay value. Just an opinion.

Wow, really odd choice for a blu-ray release

IMO it was an unfairly maligned movie that got buried in its own media buzz. A lot better than it's given credit for.

I completely agree. I was in college when this was out and all the rage. I saw it twice in the theater and did enjoy it then. Someone gave me the DVD when it came out as a present, and it was watched once (though I keep it because it was a thoughtful present from a nice person).

I think this is one of the most over-rated films of all time - I'm glad fans are getting it on Blu but I honestly can't see myself ever sitting through it again.

Does anyone know how the audio was recorded? Many have stated that while the video may not enjoy the benefit of the HD upgrade, the audio will. I have always assumed (keyword = assumed) that the audio was also recorded using "consumer grade" equipment too.

If the audio was also recorded by the actor's themselves using amateur equipment will we benefit from a lossless upgrade? I know the one saving factor of the 28 Days Later Blu-Ray was the audio upgrade, but I don’t know if we will have the same luck with The Blair Witch Project on Blu.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the movie but given the source material it just seems like a redundant release on Blu-Ray.

You'll just have people complaining about how bad it looks. It's gonna be 28 Days Later all over again.
According to this, http://cinematechnic.com/super_16mm/...uper_16mm.html , the resolution to Super 16mm is 1400 x 2490. I would assume regular 16mm would be around there for the pixel rate. So, it's not a total loss for the portions that are in B&W 16mm. I'm looking forward to the film on Blu-ray.
